Highway 83 Construction Update

SEELEY LAKE- Last week’s constant rain deterred paving crews resurfacing Highway 83 north of Seeley Lake. Project manager Frank Tabish said that despite the missed days, he doesn’t expect any delays in the project time line which is estimated to be fully completed by mid-October.

According to Tabish, the construction is about a third of the way done. There are about three weeks of asphalt milling and paving left, and the plan is to chip seal the 16-mile stretch of road in the middle of July. After that, guardrail revisions, pavement marking and tree-clearing work will continue through the rest of the summer.

The top layer of pavement that is milled off the highway is being transported just south of Seeley Lake for a local contractor.

Construction will not take place on July 3-5.

Join Swan Valley Connections for Mushrooms of Nepal June 28

Swan Valley - Lily Jane Clarke, Fulbright Scholar, Nepal, 2016-2017 will be presenting “The Mushrooms of Nepal: A study of some of Nepal’s wonderful beings” Wednesday, June 28, 7 p.m. at Swan Valley Community Hall in Condon.

Clark grew up in the Swan Valley and recently completed her Fulbright Research Scholarship in Nepal. Inspired and intrigued by the way people of the Swan are connected to the land in similar ways yet with a diversity of perspectives, she set out to explore how people of Nepal connect with their landscapes with a focus on mycology (the study of mushrooms).

She is thrilled by this opportunity to present the intimate perspectives one can gain from asking people about mushrooms, from learning language, and most of all, from cultivating and nurturing human connections.

The event is free and everyone is welcome. For details visit SwanValleyConnections.org or call 754-3137.
