Sunset School Holds Year-End Celebration

The Sunset School held their year-end celebration and kindergarten graduation Thursday, May 25 at the schoolhouse near Paws Up Resort.

The nine students recited poems and sang songs for their gathered family members and watched a slideshow from the year. Supervising teacher Toni Hatten gave a short recap of the year, which included the Sunset School skyping with a smaller, one student school in Wyoming.

First year teacher Hali Miller, who joined Sunset School in November, presented the kindergartners with their diplomas. Hatten presented each student with two achievement awards for the year.

Lucas Nygard, the only boy at Sunset was given the 'Nice Guy Award' for treating his classmates so well during the year. Other awards included being a superstar reader, a number ninja, mathlete and a quiet achiever.

Hatten, Miller and art teacher Ashley Mitchell all shed tears during the ceremony.

"We get emotionally attached to our kids," said Hatten. "We know how hard they worked and they just touch our hearts so much."
