The Truth is Inside You

MCT's "The Wiz of the West"

SEELEY LAKE – Seeley Lake Elementary (SLE) students headed west May 19 on a quest to find themselves and the truth in the Missoula Children's Theater (MCT) production of "The Wiz of the West". Nearly 40 SLE students shared the classic story of the Wizard of Oz with a twist taking the audience along with them for a saga of western adventure and personal discovery.

Main character Dotty, played by Grace Wilson, and her dog Mooch, played by Bailey Bartlett, landed in the west after a twister took their house from Kansas. Dotty and Mooch sought the Dr. Ozzy, played by Samuel Welch, to help them find their home.

Along their journey, Dotty and Mooch picked up several friends for the journey. The Scared Crow, played by Coby Gonzalez, felt he was lacking in smarts, even thought he had a great vocabulary. Tinhorn, played by Cadence Mauldin, was forever chasing money leaving him broken hearted when the love of his life left him because of his pursuit. And Lionel, played by Rowan McClure, was scared of everything except spiders after being run out of her town Castle Butte by Hawknose Halley, played by Seppa Francis.

After following the trail west to meet Dr. Ozzy and accepting the challenge to return with Halley's nose, all the characters learned that the answers to their problems were inside. Even Dr. Ozzy and Halley came out from behind their disguises and embraced who they really were.
