Swan Valley Warhawks End Season With 4-4 Record

SWAN VALLEY - The Warhawks basketball team ended their season with a one point loss to Hall. They ended their season with a 4 win, 4 loss record for the year.

The Blackfoot Valley League tournament, held in Drummond, finished with the Swan Valley players having trouble making their shots and getting the right defensive position to shut down Helmville's Jessy Barger. Barger scored 31 points where her height and inside moves provided a real advantage.

The Warhawks were in foul trouble early but held a one-point advantage at half time. The second half was all Helmville's with a 28 to 12 point scoring advantage. The game ended with a 47-32 win for the Mustangs.

Nick Bedson led the Swan Valley team with 10 points. Seth Richardson and Aspen Conley each scored 8, Rose Mercer made 4 points and Kinley Moore contributed 2.

The second game of the tournament matched the Warhawks against the Hall Huskies and provided a lot of action and hustle down to the final buzzer. The Warhawks matched up well with the Huskies but inconsistent shooting and some costly ball handling errors gave Hall a one point win at the end.

The Warhawks led at the end of the first quarter 14-7. However, a 3 point second quarter by the Warhawks, gave the Huskies a 24-17 halftime advantage.

The score was tied at 31 going into the last quarter. Hall scored 9 points to the Warhawk's 8 for the win, 40-39.

Kinley Moore and Seth Richardson led the Warhawks with 10 points each. Rose Mercer, Aspen Conley and Nick Bedson each contributed 6 and Connor Matthew added 1.

The Warhawks represented the Swan Valley very well the entire season with their hustle, hard work and determination to excel. Coaches Ken Donovan, Chris Achenbach and John Tapp congratulated all the players, "A" and "B" squad, that played and worked very hard this season.

"It was a real pleasure working with the kids and we thank all the parents for their support and help," said the coaches.

The Swan Valley Warhawks have four players being represented on the Blackfoot Valley League All-Star game in Helmville, Jan. 30. The other coaches in the league voted for Rose Mercer, Aspen Conley, Kinley Moore and Nick Bedson for this honor. Congratulations to all four of the players for this special recognition. You make us all proud!
