Pathfinder Not to Blame

SEELEY LAKE - It was with dismay that I learned last week that the Pathfinder was attacked for your coverage of the sewer vote.

As you know, I am not an uncritical reader, but I have never seen any hint of bias or slant in your paper. In fact, I continue to applaud the rigorous impartiality with which you have been writing about controversial topics for years now. And the persistence with which you drill into the depth of complex issues is on par with the best investigative reporting anywhere.

I can think of several reasons why the sewer vote failed but none have to do with your coverage. As far as I can tell you publish virtually all letters-to-the editor without favoritism and, as any newspaper would, you accept all advertising without discriminating against a particular viewpoint.

I have been interested in newspapers and journalism my whole life. I can say without hesitation that the Pathfinder, under your leadership, is among the best small-town newspapers I have seen.

This is true about journalism as it is for public life: if you never catch any flak you’re probably not doing anything.
