Donald "Don" Niles 1931 ~ 2016

Swan Song

GREAT FALLS – Donald H. Niles, 84, of Great Falls (formerly of Greenough), died peacefully in his sleep after a short illness Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016. He is now enjoying heaven and talking face-to-face with his Lord Jesus.

Visitation was held Friday, Nov. 25, at O'Connor Memorial Chapel in Great Falls, Mont. Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 26 at Faith Chapel in Seeley Lake. His final resting place is Seeley Lake Cemetery. Arrangements were by O'Connor Funeral Home.

Born in Mosinee, Wisc., to Prentice and Olive Niles Dec. 29, 1931, Don was the ninth child of ten. Don served his country from 1952-1954 in the Army in Austria.

On April 28, 1956, Don married the love of his life, Othelia Schirmer. Fulfilling a dream, he moved his wife and three children from Green Bay to Missoula in 1964. After several years of work at the Van Evans Plywood plant the family moved to Greenough and Don went to work for the State Highway Department. He retired from the Highway Department after 28 years of service.

In addition, Don and Othelia attended First Assembly of God and Glad Tidings in Missoula. He also served at Faith Chapel in Seeley Lake as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Don enjoyed taking his wife and four kids on logging roads as a family outing. Hunting, fishing, camping, motorcycle trips, time with his grandchildren and friends were favorite pastimes.

He is survived by his wife, Othelia; son Robert (Penny) of Sun Prairie; daughters Cindy (Hillman) Fowell of Great Falls and daughter Carol (Jerry) Bevignani of Bowlingbrook, Ill.; brother, Alfred (Merriel) Niles of Shawano, Wisc.; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters, his son Brian and granddaughter Shawna Lynn.
