Upper Trail Creek Road to Close Briefly for Bridge Work

SEELEY LAKE – The Upper Trail Creek Road #4381 will be closed for three days (Sept. 26-28) beginning at milepost 0.0 so that a new bridge can be installed over Morrell Creek. Road #4381 takes off from Morrell-Clearwater Road No. 4353 at milepost 5.5. There will be no vehicle access to the Morrell Falls and Pyramid Pass Trailheads while this work is completed. The Upper Trail Creek Road will open again Sept. 29.

The Morrell Falls and Pyramid Pass Trailheads are located approximately seven miles northeast of Seeley Lake.

Because it is located in the stream channel, the existing bridge over Morrell Creek causes increased velocity of the stream flow and scouring of the streambed due to constriction. The existing bridge also has a center pier, which catches large debris during high flows. The new bridge will be outside the streambed and has been designed without a center pier. Both of these design features are expected to benefit both water quality and aquatic species habitat at Morrell Creek.

For current information on the status of the work please contact the Seeley Lake Ranger District at 406-677-2233.
