Grand Marshal Rich Nelson and wife Harriet in Jeep owned and driven by Neil Meyer. Nelson said he was pleased to be the Grand Marshal and said with a smile, "It beats walking in the parade." According to American Legion Commander Rick Ferguson Nelson was chosen for the honor because of his more than 30 years in the armed forces including the Navy, Army and National Guard. Nelson, now a summer resident in the Swan Valley spent his childhood summers there when his family purchased the Hagerty homestead along Barber Creek. He is active in community affairs including helping build the library, creating the nature walk at the Swan Valley Connections, participating in Meals on Wheels, and working with local school children. The author of three books, he is currently working on two more books.
