Update on the Animal Control Air Conditioning

MISSOULA - Several have called me in regard of the air conditioning unit for The Missoula Animal Control building of which many of us contributed to. So, I called Jeff the head of Animal Control and he stated pretty much the following.

Before Animal Control could have it installed they had to have a structural engineer check out the building where the unit would be placed and he found problems in the upper building. This has been fixed. By the time it was fixed, the business, who had said they would install it at no cost, found the cost and it was more than Animal Control could afford to do.

By the time all of this happened it was late September so they decided to wait till this spring. Jeff said they still have all the money and June 26 will be the day that the installing will begin.

Jeff expressed his deep thanks to everyone in our community for their support! One has to remember when you work with the county there are hurdles and hoops to go through and I am sure Jeff had many and still did a good job! The person who donated a big chunk of money will be the one to cut the ribbon.

Finally, the people who work at Animal Control will not suffer the heat and the poor throw-a-way dogs and cats have suffered enough without having to be in a cement 4X6 suffering the heat. This should have been done years ago but we need new bathrooms in the county offices and a 60 million dollar park!

I wonder how many of the commissioners and city council  members have spent a day at Animal Control when it’s 89 degrees above outside and 105 inside where the animals are? Will they be there to have their pictures taken on the day the air conditioning is completed and the person cuts the ribbon?

My opinion is that the little gal, whose picture was taken and on the front page of The Missoulian telling the world how the staff and animals were suffering from the heat, was the one who brought it to the attention of everyone in the area. And it was the people, not the county, who rallied and raised the money for the animals. Thanks to all of you out there who helped!

Remember the Fourth of July is coming. Keep your dogs safe and not in hot cars, or chained where they are in the heat and can’t get away from the fire crackers. Watch your children closely so no harm comes to them!

Please take care,
