End-of-Year Performance Showcases Talent

SEELEY LAKE - Seeley-Swan High School (SSHS) band and choirs hosted their annual spring concert, May 24. In addition to several large, small and solo pieces, the SSHS Creative Writing class added to the evening.

The band and choir shared several selections, some of which they played at the District Music Festival in April. Members of Swan Valley School's advanced band Aspen Conley, Rose Mercer, Kinley Moore and Seth Richardson joined the SSHS band on their District Music Festival piece "Dark Odyssey."

Soloists included Mary Strumpfer, Chloe Robbins and Abram Pocha on vocals, Amber Leetch played her bass clarinet and Tessa Grimes played Sonata No. 1 on clarinet. Lana Higgins and Cera Strumpfer sang "Amazing Grace" as a duet and senior Kim Kellogg sang "Suds in the Bucket" with Swan Valley resident Katie Wright.

Between musical selections, students from the creative writing class shared original poetry. Some of the writings shared were published in "Backroads of the Mind – A literary arts magazine featuring wilderness."

"The students have improved so much this year and this concert was a great opportunity for them to show off what they have learned," said SSHS Music Director Kaytee Ambrozich. "We are thankful that the creative writing students were able to join us tonight as well."
