SLE Levy Passes, Local Election Results

Members of the Seeley Lake community took to the polls May 2 to vote on Seeley Lake Elementary (SLE) general fund levy and elect two SLE School Board of Trustees. Those in the Swan and Potomac Valleys voted on a mail-in ballot for two representatives for the Swan Valley Community Council and one person for the Greenough/Potomac Fire Board of Trustees.

The SLE general fund levy passed by 84 votes. There were 288 votes for and 204 against the $17,056 levy. This will increase taxes on a $100,000 home by $2.98 and on a $200,000 home by $5.96 annually.

Incumbents Karen Kovatch and Jenny Lindemer were reelected to serve another three years on the SLE School Board. Kovatch received 371 votes and Lindemer saw 386 votes cast for her. Write-in candidate Amanda Fowler received 20 votes.

Of the 377 registered voters in the Swan Valley, 182 ballots were cast for a 48.28 percent turnout. Lacey McNutt, 127 votes, and Henry Westra, 105 votes, were elected to the Swan Valley Community Council in a very tight race with Ellie Greenough, 80 votes. McNutt and Westra will serve for three-year terms.

There was only a 31.27 percent turnout in the Greenough/Potomac Fire District. Of the 774 registered voters, 242 ballots were cast. Jennifer Iverson beat out incumbent Dale Hinkle by a large margin for the three-year term on the Greenough/Potomac Fire Board of Trustees. Iverson received 184 votes to Hinkle’s 57. There was one vote for a write-in.
