800 Election Judges Recruited for Missoula County Elections

MISSOULA - Entering 2016, the Missoula County Elections Office needed to recruit 800 election judges for the estimated high voter turnout Presidential Election. Despite being a large hurdle, staff remained cautiously optimistic this goal could be achieved, and as of Feb. 18, 808 community members have signed up.

“We cannot thank our community enough for stepping up to assist with the election,” Elections Administrator, Rebecca Connors said. “We’ve had overwhelming support from so many, whether Elections Advisory Committee members, the media or the general public, to spread the word. This goal would not have been met without their help.”

The Elections Office utilized a variety of outreach efforts to encourage Missoula County voters to register as election judges. Fliers were included with absentee mailings to 40,000 voters and advertisements were placed in print and broadcast publications. Election Advisory Committee (EAC) members attended neighborhood council meetings up to six months prior to the registration deadline to champion the cause and answer questions about the elections process.

As a result, voters can expect more Election Day workers, meaning less wait times and more customer service.

“Although we reached our goal, there is still time to sign up to become involved with the election,” Connors said. “This is a great way to serve your community. The more folks we have, the better the election process for all.”
