SEELEY LAKE - Zoning and the proposed sale of Drew Creek Park will be the main topics at the next Seeley Lake Community Council (SLCC) meeting Monday, March 14. The informal part of the meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Seeley Lake Historical Museum and Visitor’s Center, with pizza and sodas followed by the meeting at 6 p.m.
Nick Kaufman, Land Use Planner at WGM Group, will discuss the pros and cons of zoning for a small community like Seeley Lake. The Council does not currently expect to take a position on zoning. Kaufman’s presentation is intended for information purposes only.
Zoning has proved a controversial issue in Seeley Lake. An attempt to zone Double Arrow in 2013 failed amidst wide-spread protests by landowners. The topic has arisen again as a result of the large cell tower planned for downtown. Community members have suggested that height restrictions via zoning could have averted the tower and asked for a discussion.
Next, John Stegmaier of Missoula County Parks will talk about the proposed sale of Drew Creek Park, a 37-acre county-owned park, dedicated to the public with the Double Arrow Ranch. The county wants to test the community’s support for divestiture, because the park is far from downtown Seeley Lake and quite difficult to access. If the park were to be sold, the county intends to invest the proceeds in another public facility in Seeley Lake. Finally, Anne Beach of the Seeley Lake Community Foundation will ask for the Council’s support for a funding application to upgrade our in-town trail.
