Blackhawks Take Second at Districts

HAMILTON - The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks upset third seeded Clark Fork, 45-41, in the opening round and second seeded Granite, 46-39, in the semifinal of the District 13-C Tournament. The victories set up a championship game with Valley Christian.

The Blackhawks fell to Valley Christian, 33-66, earning second place but secured a trip to Divisional Tournaments in the process.

Versus Clark Fork

The Blackhawks took on Clark Fork Feb. 17 in the opening round of the tournament. The teams had split during the regular season with the Blackhawks winning on Clark Forks' home court and vice versa at the Blackhawks' home court.

The Blackhawks took a 4-point first quarter lead and extended it to 5 by the half. Clark Fork came out strong in the third and the teams headed into the final quarter nearly tied.

The Blackhawks were able to outscore Clark Fork in the fourth, scoring half of their 20 points on 10 free throws. The final score was 45-41 in favor of the Blackhawks.

Jacob Haley scored 14 points to lead the Blackhawks while Bradley Miller earned 10 points for the team.

Also scoring: Cameron Haines 6; Gunner Sloan 6; Joshua Cahoon 6; Nino Robinett 2 and Chance Johnson 2.

Versus Granite

The Blackhawks faced off against the Granite Prospectors in the semifinals. The Prospectors were favored to win and had put the Blackhawks down twice during the regular season.

The Blackhawks took a commanding lead in the first quarter only to give it all back in the second. The teams headed into the half just one point apart.

Both teams ran up the score in the third, more than doubling the first half score but neither could pull ahead. The fourth quarter buzzer rang with the teams tied sending the game into overtime.

The Blackhawks used the extra time to finally secure the win and with it, a spot in the championship game. Final score was 46-39.

Joshua Cahoon led the Blackhawks with 15 points, hitting 3, three-pointers and a pair of two-pointers and a pair of free throws. Cameron Haines followed Cahoon with 12 points including hitting 5 of 6 from the free throw line.

Also scoring: Jacob Haley 10; Bradley Miller 4; Gunner Sloan 4 and Billy Bedson 1.

Versus Valley Christian

The Blackhawks took on the nearly undefeated Valley Christian Eagles for the District 13-C championship.

The Eagles proved they were number one as the Blackhawks were unable to match them throughout the game. The Blackhawks had to settle for second place with a final score of 33-66.

Bradley Miller led the Blackhawks with 9 points. Jacob Haley was close behind with 8 points. Keaton Johnson hit 4 of 5 he attempted from the free throw line and one basket from the field gave him 6 game points.

Also scoring: Gavin Mercado 4; Joshua Cahoon 2; Chance Johnson 2 and Billy Bedson 2.

This Week at SSHS

Western C Divisional Tournaments are this week in Hamilton, Mont. The Boys' first game is against Ennis Feb. 25 at 12 p.m. The Lady Blackhawks take on either Charlo or White Sulphur Springs (WSS) in their first game of the tournament Feb. 25 at 4:45 p.m. Charlo and WSS play on Feb. 24 in a loser out battle for the final spot in the tournament.
