What Public Lands?

Let us look at the incredible amount of beautiful public land available to the people of Montana and our visitors.

On the federal level alone we have: United States Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Department of Fish Wildlife and Parks, the United States Park Service, the Bureau of Reclamation and the Army Corps of Engineers.

With a few exceptions the above listed MANAGERS of OUR Public lands are duplicated on the state level. What do most have in common? To manage our PUBLIC lands for ALL of us.

Hunters, hikers, skiers, wilderness excursions of all types have the ability to see some of the most spectacular geography in the nation, if not the world and the above mentioned federal and state organizations are there to provide that opportunity for us! How fortunate can we be?

I wonder why people such as the Bundys, Jennifer Fielder and The American Lands Council and many others are so dissatisfied with the status quo? I see that the likely reason might be that the land is no longer available to the PUBLIC.

The elderly and handicapped appear not to be welcome on MOST of the public land due to their inability to function with the abilities of a 30-year-old athlete.

While the land managers close or remove established roads in OUR forests, the disposable elderly and handicapped can only sit and read road closed signs on OUR PUBLIC LAND. I guess our shortcomings won’t allow us to the rights of the public, at least that is what Helena and Washington D.C. seems to believe.

Where are the anti- discrimination American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and/or Americans With Disabilities people when one really needs them??
