Hawk & Sons Services Keeps Mechanic Tradition Alive

SEELEY LAKE – For Seeley Lake resident Jeremy Hawkinson, opening his own mechanic shop in Seeley Lake is something he has always wanted to do. Being able to fix something that is not working and at an affordable price for his customers is what Hawkinson enjoys the most.

Hawkinson grew up learning about mechanics from his father, Gerald. Gerald worked on the oil rigs in Alaska prior to moving to Seeley Lake 28 years ago.

"I'm following in his footsteps [as a mechanic]," said Hawkinson. "I like being able to take something apart with a ton of parts and pieces, be able to look at it all and then put it back together so it works. I've gotten good at it."

Hawkinson wanted his dad to name their business Hawk & Sons Services for years. He now has taken the name for his new business in hopes that one of his three boys will follow in his footsteps.

While he has been helping friends out around Seeley Lake for the past several years, Hawkinson officially opened up his shop as sole proprietor Jan. 18 in the old Terra building behind Rovero's and Napa. His goal is to provide affordable service and be personable with his customers. Currently he doesn't have any employees. However, depending on demand, he will hire as needed.

Hawkinson will work on any brand of: small engines including chainsaws, weed eaters and lawn mowers; automobiles; power sport vehicles including boats, ATVs, snowmobiles and wave runners; heavy equipment; diesel engines and hydraulics.

Hawkinson does not currently work on motorcycles and he does not have the certification to work on equipment under warranty. Otherwise, he said, "I can work on just about anything mechanical."

Hawkinson has all the computer diagnostics to work on vehicles that have computers in them.

"I realized if I didn't get the diagnostic equipment I wouldn't be able to work on anything computerized and achieve what I wanted to through the business," said Hawkinson.

Other services that Hawkinson offers are: small welding projects; building new chain for chainsaws and chainsaw sharpening; inside and out boat detailing, with the exception of gel coating; trailer tune-ups and 100 percent mobile service. Although he doesn't own a tow truck he said he has all tools needed and the ability to travel to someone's home to work on their vehicle, boat or equipment. There is no limit to how far he will travel if his customers need him.

"There is a need for this here [in Seeley Lake]," said Hawkinson. "I'm mechanicing on my own and loving it."

Hawk & Sons Services is open Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 6:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday by appointment. Hawkinson is licensed and insured and will work on anything that comes through the door.
