Swan Valley Warhawks Fall Short Against Hall

SWAN VALLEY - For the second time this year, the Warhawks failed to beat the scrappy Hall Huskies on the Warhawk’s home floor, losing by a score of 28 to 34.

The “A” squad ended up 6 points short after holding a 14-point lead in the first half. The offense just couldn’t make the shots they needed to maintain a halftime lead of 22 to 10.

A 6 point second half by the Warhawks allowed the Huskies to work the floor and forced the Swan Valley team to give up the ball on numerous occasions for a 24-point second half.

Coaches Ken Donovan and John Tapp commented, “After a very productive first half, led by Aspen Conley’s 15 points, we were very pleased with the overall team effort and felt we were seeing positive individual efforts on the offensive and defensive end of the game. We knew we would be tested as this team beat us by 14 [points] at home. Plus, we have seen a lot of improvement with all the kids since then but were not able to finish them off the second half.”

The Warhawks were led in scoring by Aspen Conley with 15 followed by Seth Richardson and Rose Mercer with 4 each, followed by Kinley Moore and Jayla Kauffman scoring 2 each and Addie Anderson had 1.

The Swan Valley Warhawk “B” squad ran into a very tough Hall team that held them to a 2 point first half with the local team losing by a score of 13 to 25.

An 11-point first quarter gave the team from Hall a lead that they never gave up. Coach Katie Gleason was pleased with the hustle and desire of the team but the ball just wouldn’t fall for the Warhawks.

“It came down to the fundamental execution of the offense and a coordinated defensive effort to stop the team from Hall, where we have seen improvement, but they were just one step ahead of us,” said Gleason.

Chris Auchenbach led the Warhawks in scoring with 6 while Kyla Conley had 5 followed by Connor Matthew with 2.

The Warhawks travel to Helmville Feb. 4 for a 5 p.m. game.
