Seeley Lake Rural Fire District Gets New Type III Engine

SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley Lake Rural Fire District received their 1987 Type III fire engine this past week. Seeley Lake Fire Chief Bob Vanden Heuvel acquired the engine through a state program that offers used equipment to fire districts for the cost of shipping. The fire truck is a 6X6, 1,200 gallon tender with 22,000 miles on it. The district purchased it for $4,000 from Fort Drum, an Army base in Pittsburg, Penn.

At a special board meeting, Jan. 29, Vanden Heuvel gave district board members a tour of the new engine. He shared that the new engine came with new tires and chains at no additional charge. Since everything appears to be in working order, Seeley Lake Volunteer Fire Captain Shawn Ellinghouse estimated it will only take about $1,000 to outfit the engine for wildland fire.

The board members present for the tour were very impressed with the new engine and were pleased with the chief's decision to purchase it.
