Artist-Wilderness-Connection, Artist-in-Residence Program Application Period Open

KALISPELL - The Flathead National Forest, Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation, Hockaday Museum of Art, and Swan Valley Connections invite artists to apply to the program that connects artists and local communities with public lands of the Flathead National Forest in Northwest Montana.  The application deadline for the 2016 Artist-Wilderness-Connection, Artist-in-Residence Program is Friday, Feb. 19.

Professional working artists of various disciplines, media and styles spend up to two weeks in a remote forest cabin on the Flathead National Forest to focus on their respective art.  The program connects artists with wild lands like the Bob Marshall, Great Bear and Mission Mountains Wilderness Areas.

After completing the residency, artists select a format to share their talents and residency experience with the community and donate a representative piece of their art to the Artist-Wilderness-Connection Program.

The online application for the program is available at http://hockadaymuseum.org/ under Artist Opportunities, Artist-Wilderness-Connection.  Individuals and group collaborations are invited to apply.

For more information about the Artist-Wilderness-Connection Program, contact Teresa Wenum at the Flathead National Forest, 406-758-5218 or Carol Treadwell with the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation, 406-387-3847.

Ringers Needed for Bell Choir

SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley-Swan Mountain Bells, a local community handbell choir, is starting its spring season and has room for additional members.  There are two criteria to join: 1. Plan to have fun and 2. Already able to read music, even if just slightly or very rusty.

Never even seen a handbell?  Not a problem.  It’s easy to learn and a ton of fun.  The group practices in the Seeley Lake Elementary music room at 3:15 p.m. for 90 minutes on Tuesday afternoons.  They will host a spring concert around the first of May, and then stand down for the summer.

If interested, come to a practice and give it a try.  Warning, it can be addictive.  Contact Joann at 406-677-4424 for additional information.
