Blackhawks Fend Off Tigers and Pirates

The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks earned a pair of wins this week against the Darby Tigers and the Victory Pirates, improving their overall record to 4-6.

Versus Darby

The Blackhawks hosted the Darby Tigers Jan. 15. After battling back and forth in the first quarter the Tigers took a 6-point lead as they hit multiple three pointers.

The Blackhawks managed to shut down the Tigers' outside shooting in the second quarter. Bradley Miller hit the Blackhawks only three-point-shot in the final seconds of the half to put them up two.

In the third quarter the Blackhawks stretched their lead to five forcing the Tigers to resort to fouling to try to gain possession of the ball. The Blackhawks took advantage of their free shots hitting 12 of 17 from the line in the final quarter. The penalty shots helped the Blackhawks to their 68-59 victory.

Four Blackhawks broke into double digit scoring with Joshua Cahoon leading the way with 19 followed by Jacob Haley's 18. Cameron Haines had 11 while Miller had 10.

Haines and Cahoon both went 3 for 3 on free throws while Haley sunk 10 of his 13 free throws.

Also scoring: Gunner Sloan 5; Billy Bedson 3 and Nino Robinett 2.

Versus Victor

The Blackhawks headed to Victor Jan. 16 to take on the Pirates. The Blackhawks fell behind early in the game but were able to close the gap by the half.

In the third and fourth quarters the Blackhawks took advantage of Pirate fouls, gaining the lead and the win. More than half the Blackhawks points in the final quarters came off free throws.

The Blackhawks hit a total of 19 of 26 attempts from the free throw line, helping propel them to the 44-41 victory.

Jacob Haley led the Blackhawks with 14 points followed by 10 points from Cameron Haines.

Joshua Cahoon went 4 for 4 from the free throw line while Haines hit 5 of 6 and Haley hit 8 of 10.

Also scoring: Bradley Miller 8; Cahoon 4; Billy Bedson 4; Keaton Johnson 2 and Nino Robinett 2.

This Week at SSHS

The Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks take on Valley Christian at home Jan. 21 with games starting at 2:30 p.m. They then head to Drummond Jan. 22 with games starting at 2:30 p.m.
