Internationally Acclaimed Pianist to Perform in Seeley Lake

SEELEY LAKE - On Sunday, Jan. 17, concert pianist Tanya Gabrielian will bring her talent to Seeley Lake for a public concert at 3 p.m. in the Seeley-Swan High School auditorium. Alpine Artisans' 2 Valleys Stage (2VS) is pleased to be able to bring such a world-renowned artist to our valleys. Gabrielian has performed in acclaimed venues on four continents, including Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and the Salle Cortot in Paris.

Grounded in the belief that music is about community, Gabrielian feels just as much at home with new audiences as with experienced concertgoers. Particularly enthusiastic about reaching out to communities, schools and unusual locations, she has developed various projects and associations that focus on creating connections within communities.

Gabrielian received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the Royal Academy of Music. For six consecutive years she received the prize for the best final recital. Upon graduation, she was awarded with a DipRAM, the Royal Academy's highest performing award. Gabrielian then continued her studies at The Juilliard School. She was the only candidate accepted for the prestigious Artist Diploma program, an extraordinarily selective post-graduate residency program.

Gabrielian gained international respect when she won first prize in prestigious competitions, one held in Scotland and the other in Armenia. She quickly garnered other awards as well.

After winning the coveted Wigmore Prize awarded by the Royal Academy of Music, she was acclaimed by music critics as "revelatory, a feast of romantic pianism which held us enthralled" and "an astounding achievement by any standards, and one I cannot imagine being bettered ... Remember the name-Tanya Gabrielian-you will be hearing a lot more from her I feel sure."

In addition to the traditional concert stage, Gabrielian is passionate about inspiring new generations of musicians and music lovers. As she states on her website, tanyagabrielian.com, "The benefits of arts education are irrefutable; not only do students learn how to express themselves but students also perform better academically and show improved self-esteem, cultural awareness, inventiveness, inclusivity and decision-making when engaged in the arts."

During her residency in Seeley Lake, Gabrielian will conduct Informances (informal learning sessions) for Seeley-Swan High School, Seeley Lake Elementary, Swan Valley School and Potomac Schools. She will also conduct workshops with smaller groups of students.

Gabrielian exemplifies the role of artist as citizen, finding a modern relevance for music in today's society. Through her passion for music and dedication to bringing communities together through the power of art, Tanya has used the piano to bring a vision of love and beauty to audiences on a variety of stages.

Working to break down the barrier between the performer and the listener, Tanya was compelled to find a new format to keep classical piano repertoire intact while expressing her own artistic vision. She has participated in a number of projects in collaboration with artists outside her sphere to promote a new perspective on music.

Gabrielian's passion for connecting with her audience makes her a perfect fit for Alpine Artisans' (AAI) mission "to promote and preserve the arts in western Montana."

Please share in the experience of this talented musician by attending the public concert on Jan. 17. Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and those under 18 get in free with an adult. Tickets are available at the door.
