Swan Valley AARP Meeting, Jan. 4
SWAN VALLEY - Fairytale Farm will be the program Monday, Jan. 4 for the Swan Valley AARP at the Swan Valley Community Hall.
Local resident and owner of Fairytale Farms Sarah Mendenhall will charm attendees with a talk. The potluck starts at noon and attendees will eat at 12:30 p.m. The hosts will be Neil and Dixie Meyer.
Winter Trails Day, Jan. 9, in the Flathead Valley
The Flathead Community of Resource Educators (CORE), a network of individuals and organizations working together to increase awareness and understanding about the natural, historical and cultural resources of the Flathead Region, is celebrating Winter Trails on Saturday, Jan. 9 with several free outdoor activities.
These free activities are a great way to enjoy the outdoors in winter and discover the fitness and social benefits of snowshoeing in Northwest Montana. All activities are suitable for beginners and families. Be prepared with warm clothing and wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots.
A snowshoe walk on the Flathead National Forest, hosted by the Swan Lake Ranger District, Flathead Audubon and Foy’s to Blacktail Trails, will be held at the Blacktail Mountain cross-country ski trails near Lakeside from 10 a.m. to Noon. Participants may bring snowshoes, or a limited number of children and adult shoes will be available by reservation. Please meet at the upper trailhead parking area. Reservations are not required. Explore Lone Pine State Park on snowshoes. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., park visitors can borrow snowshoes and explore the many park trails. Adult and children’s snowshoes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. A ranger-led snowshoe walk takes place at 11 a.m. Please contact the park at 406-755-2706 for more information and to reserve snowshoes for the 11 a.m. walk.
Ranger-led snowshoe hikes at Glacier National Park will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Each hike will last approximately two hours and reservations are not required. Snowshoes are available for hike participants. Visitors need to purchase a park entrance pass. Please meet at the Apgar Visitor Center. Call 406-888-7939 for more information.

2016 Montana Property Tax Assistance Available
HELENA - Low income Montanans may qualify to receive a reduction in their 2016 Montana property taxes if they apply with the Montana Department of Revenue by April 15.
The Property Tax Assistance Program offers help for taxpayers who own and occupy their primary residence for at least seven months and meet the income requirements: up to $21,032 for a single person and up to $28,043 for households.
The Montana Disabled Veteran Program offers reduced property taxes for veterans with 100 percent disability and the unmarried surviving spouses of veterans who were at 100 percent disability at the time of death or died while on active duty or as a result of a service-connected disability. Applicants must own and occupy their primary residence for at least seven months. Income limits are $48,626 for single veterans, $42,392 for unmarried surviving spouses and $56,107 for married veterans and veterans who are heads of households.

Volunteers Needed for Missoula City-County Air Quality Advisory Council
MISSOULA - Missoula County residents interested in improving air quality are invited to apply for membership on the Missoula City-County Air Quality Advisory Council. The council currently has openings for voting and alternate positions. Alternates vote during meetings when there are not enough members present to form a quorum. Alternates also provide their voice and extra insight during council discussions.
The all-volunteer council meets the first Tuesday evening of each month and advises the Missoula City-County Air Pollution Control Board on a broad range of air quality topics including transportation, industrial sources, outdoor burning, road dust, wildfire smoke and wood stoves.
Anyone who is a Missoula County resident with a strong interest in air quality and who is willing to attend meetings regularly is encouraged to apply.
