Seeley Lake Fire Board - Snowplow Bid Approved and Cadet Program Suspended

SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley Lake Rural Fire District Board of Trustees accepted Rod Stevens’ bid for snow plowing both Station 1 and 2. Rod Stevens Construction was one of two bids received for the 2015-2016 snow-plowing contract. Stevens has held the contract for the last several years.

Also at the Nov. 17 meeting, under the recommendation of Fire Chief Bob Vanden Heuvel, the board also agreed to suspend the cadet program until further notice. There were no questions or further discussion from the board on the decision.

Vanden Heuvel also advised the board that the department is actively working on a fleet safety program. Lighting capabilities for the emergency vehicles have been improved and the department is working towards meeting all the National Fire Protection Association standards including reflective stripes, cones and signs.

Vanden Heuvel expects the new ambulance will not be ready for at least another six to seven months. The bid has been put out for the vehicle. Once the chassis is built, the department will have input on how the box is put together and organized.

The next meeting is Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Seeley Lake Fire Hall. The agenda includes policy updates, policies and procedures manuals, approval of the stipend for volunteers for nighttime transports and a discussion about the change in advanced life support licensure and whether or not the district wants to offer advanced life support service.
