MCPS High School Bond Passes

MISSOULA - The Missoula County Public Schools' (MCPS) $70 million high school facilities bond passed in the Nov. 3 election by a margin of 0.84 percent based on the unofficial results as of Nov. 9. Results were expected to be finalized after the Pathfinder's press deadline at the MCPS board meeting Nov. 10.

Of the 51,258 ballots mailed to active registered voters in the high school district, 27,989 votes were cast with 14,113 voting for and 13,876 voting against the bond.

Election officials were unable to provide results for how each local precinct voted because the election was done by district not precinct. However, information on voter turnout was available per precinct.

The overall voter turnout for the high school district was at 54.6 percent. Potomac, Seeley Lake and the Swan precincts all showed a greater turnout.

Seeley Lake showed the highest of the three local precincts at 63.53 percent while in Missoula, the UC Center showed one of the lowest turnouts at 7.25 percent. The UC Center number is skewed by the abnormally high number of undeliverable ballots at 46.02 percent. The whole district showed only 8.81 percent undeliverable.

The unofficial results show MCPS' $88 million dollar elementary bond passed as well with 10,712 votes for and 7757 votes against the bond.
