SEELEY LAKE - The Missoula County Commissioners strongly endorsed the Seeley Lake Community Council’s (SLCC) traffic study last week.
The 119-page document, which the SLCC submitted to the Commissioners in October, was the result of a two-year effort that culminated in a community-wide survey conducted this summer. As a result of the study the SLCC is asking for slower speed limits in Seeley Lake and for more and better-marked pedestrian crossings.
In a letter to Project Chair Duane Schlabach the Commissioners applauded the SLCC’s effort, stating “You are to be congratulated for your time and effort in examining the problem, identifying solutions and achieving general consensus through extensive community outreach. We believe your observations and recommendations have merit and warrant further consideration by MDT [Montana Department of Transportation].”
The Commissioners forwarded the SLCC’s document to MDT with comments that the SLCC’s efforts “have merit and should be strongly considered.” The Commissioners asked that MDT revise the agency’s original study (which had recommended only minimal changes) and provide a revised version for the Commissioners’ consideration and the SLCC’s input.
Project Chair Schlabach said, “We appreciate the Commissioners’ strong support, and we are very grateful to the many volunteers who helped shape the project and gathered widespread community input. We look forward to hearing from MDT and the realization of the Seeley Lake community’s vision for itself.”
