Lady Blackhawks Take Second at Districts

SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley-Swan Lady Blackhawks took second place at the District 9C Tournament in Victor last week. The Ladies earned a spot in the championship match after defeating Victor, Drummond and the Valley Christian Eagles.

The Eagles went on to defeat Granite in the third place match setting up the Lady Blackhawks versus Eagles championship match.

The Lady Blackhawks were unable to repeat their earlier victory against the Eagles. The Lady Blackhawks’ loss in the championship match gave both teams one loss each in the tournament forcing a final challenge match to decide the champion.

The Lady Blackhawks were unable to gain the upper hand on the Eagles in this final match and finished in second place. Both teams earned spots in this week’s Western C Divisional Tournament.

Versus Victor - Oct. 29

The Lady Blackhawks faced the Victor Pirates in the opening round of the district tournament. The Ladies swabbed the deck with the Pirates defeating them in three games, 25-12, 25-3 and 25-20.

“The players came out ready to play,” said Lady Blackhawks Head Coach Tammy Lewis. “It was a good warm up match for what we would face in a few hours against Drummond.”

Paige Holmes led the Ladies with 15 digs, 11 assists, 7 kills and 3 stuff blocks. Tyana Murphy led in serving with 3 aces. Freshmen Andi Bohlman and Ashley Miller had great games as well. Miller had 3 kills, 4 assists and 10 digs while Andi Bohlman had 6 kills.

Versus Drummond - Oct. 29

The Lady Blackhawks met rival Drummond Trojans in the second round of the district tournament. The Lady Blackhawks had fallen to the Trojans the previous two times the teams had met and were looking for a win.

The Lady Blackhawks took the first two games with the Trojans right on their heels, 25-23 and 25-22. The Ladies took game three and the match with a solid 25-10 victory.

“It was a great match to watch,” said Lewis. “We had been working on a different lineup going into districts and we saw the rewards of that.”

Alex Bohlman and Paige Holmes led the Lady Blackhawks offense with 11 kills each. Holmes also led with 16 assists and 15 digs. Delaney Holzworth had 4 stuff blocks and added 15 digs. Ashley Miller, Kyndee Schmitz and Tessa Grimes each served 2 aces.

Versus Valley Christian - Oct. 30

The Lady Blackhawks took on the undefeated Valley Christian Eagles in the third round of the district tournament. The Lady Blackhawks took a beating early on loosing game one 13-25 but were able to come back and take game two 26-24 and game three 25-20.

With a full crowd cheering for them, the Lady Blackhawks handed the Eagles their first loss of the season winning game four, 25-14, taking the match.

“It was definitely one of the best moments of our season and I am so proud of my team,” said Lewis.

With the victory the Lady Blackhawks secured a spot in the championship match and a guaranteed trip to divisional tournaments.

Paige Holmes led the Ladies with 13 kills and 17 digs. Ashley Miller and Delaney Holzworth each added 13 digs to help overcome the Eagles Cheyenne Jones who holds the state record in kills. Alex Bohlman led with 5 stuff blocks and 13 assists while Tessa Grimes had 5 aces.

Versus Valley Christian-Championship Match, Oct. 31

The Lady Blackhawks faced the Valley Christian Eagles for the second time in two days in the championship match. The Lady Blackhawks fell to the Eagles in a tight game one, 24-26 and would suffered a second loss in game two 18-25.

The Lady Blackhawks weren’t ready to give up and took game three by storm 25-13 but were unable to keep the momentum in game four. The Eagles took the game 18-25 and the match forcing a second match due to each team having one loss.

Paige Holmes led the Ladies effort with 15 digs, 16 assists and 10 kills. Delaney Holzworth and Alex Bohlman each added 9 kills. Holzworth and Tessa Grimes lead with 3 stuff blocks each and Alex Bohlman with 3 aces.

Versus Valley Christian-Challenge Match, Oct. 31

The Lady Blackhawks were unable to hold back the Eagles’ Cheyenne Jones in the final match. Jones punished the Lady Blackhawks with 21 kills and 8 blocks in the three game match. The Eagles took the championship, 20-25, 22-25 and 12-25. The loss gave the Lady Blackhawks second place in the tournament.

“Those close games, match after match, were just too much of a roller coaster for us,” said Lewis. “I just want to say how proud I am of this team. They have come so far this year.”

Lewis praised Lady Blackhawk Paige Holmes for her leadership on the court, keeping the team together.

Holmes led the Lady Blackhawks with 17 digs, 11 kills, 10 assists and 2 aces while Delaney Holzworth had the Ladies single stuff block.

This Week - Divisional Tournament

The Lady Blackhawks head to Butte Nov. 5 - 7 for Western C Divisional tournaments.

The Ladies will take on Gardner, last year’s state champions, in the opening round Nov. 5 11:30 a.m. at the Butte Maroon Activity Center (MAC). The tournament brackets will be posted and updated as information is available on the Pathfinder’s website: seeleyswanpathfinder.com
