Runners from all over Montana, and even several from out-of-state, joined together on Saturday, Feb. 25 for the 44th annual Snow Joke Half Marathon. The Snow Joke is hosted in late February every year and is one of Montana's oldest footraces. The first official Snow Joke was hosted on February 23, 1980, with a total of 33 races. Feb. 13 brought another first place win for local dog sled racer, Jessie Royer. The 46-year-old musher and dog trainer crossed the finish line with her seventh win in the Race to the Sky event, a 300-mile trail-race from Lincoln to Seeley Lake, and back. Royer has been running sled dogs for 31 years, since she was 15. Saturday Feb. 11 started like any other day of ice fishing. Wyatt Blevins of Missoula and his friend Morgan McKinney set out on the ice just before sunrise. During an impromptu interview near the Highway 141 and Highway 200 junction, Nance shared his life passions and motivation for the adventure. MEXICO - Seeley Lake's Curtis Friede pulled off a miracle in Mexico, racing 1,227 miles from Ensenada, Mexico to La Paz, Mexico to complete the Baja 1000 race Nov. 20. SEELEY LAKE - The Blackhawk Disc Golf Course near Seeley-Swan High School received a string of renovations this past year. SSHS teacher Trace Stone said while he has done some work on the course in the past, this year is the most they have done at one time.
