  • Animals of Seeley Lake – Lions, foxes, bears ... Oh my!

Robert Shaffer, President, Double Arrow Ranch Land Owners Association|May 12, 2022

One of the wonderful things about living in Seeley Lake and the Double Arrow Ranch is the abundance of wildlife in our area. We get to see many critters on a regular basis that most residents of the U.S. are lucky to see in their lifetime. Some of that is due to our rural setting, but it is also due to the fact that we live in a wonderful section of the beautiful state of Montana. I think sometimes we take all of the wildlife around us for granted and need to take a step back and observe what...

  • Double Arrow Ranch - 35 and 20 years ago

Tom Browder, President, Double Arrow Ranch Land Owners Association|Dec 16, 2021

Readers of the Pathfinder have enjoyed the special feature “20/35 Year Look Back” during this past year. Since Double Arrow Ranch was in existence 35 years ago, let’s take a look at what it was in 1986 (35 years ago), and how it had changed by 20 years ago in 2001. In 1986, the most recent phases of the Ranch were eight years old. While it was an established subdivision, in many ways it showed its youth. The Homeowners Association as we know it today, Double Arrow Ranch Landowners Association (DARLOA), was still coming into existence. Since...

  • Double Arrow Ranch - Before the beginning: Our homesteaders

Tom Browder, President, Double Arrow Ranch Land Owners Association|Jun 24, 2021

In comparison to many subdivisions in Western Montana, Double Arrow Ranch is a senior citizen. Opened in phases between 1973 and 1978, it coincided with Montana’s first attempt to regulate such developments, with the Subdivision and Platting Act of July 1, 1973. The earliest parts of the ranch turn 48 years old this year, and soon will reach the age of 50, where people, places and events are considered historic! The residential Ranch of today is a legacy of Seeley Lake’s first dude ranch dating from 1929, the original Double Arrow Ranch. Est...

  • The legacy of Double Arrow Ranch

    DARLOA Board of Directors|Oct 18, 2018

Double Arrow Ranch is proud to share a name that has a long history in the Seeley Lake area. Once called the Corbett Ranch, the land that makes up today’s residential community was part of a purchase in the late 1920’s by Jan Boissevain and George Weisel. They founded the Double Arrow Ranch as a guest ranch, with the first paying guests arriving in 1930. In the following decades, the ranch served as a working cattle ranch. In 1958, CB and Helen Rich purchased the property for their outfitting business. The subdivision of the ranch for res...

  • Fire Safety and Preparedness – A Priority for The Double Arrow Ranch

    DARLOA Board of Directors|May 3, 2018

The Double Arrow Ranch Land Owners’ Association (DARLOA) and its landowners have made fire safety and preparedness a priority and will continue to do so. We all learned valuable lessons from the Jocko Lakes fire 10 years earlier and the Rice Ridge Fire last summer. First and foremost, we learned that being good neighbors and being there for, caring for and helping one another in a time of crisis/challenging times, is one of the most (if not the most) important attributes and values of any community. During the Rice Ridge fire, we were in near-c...

  • "Community" is Key!

    DARLA Board of Directors|Nov 16, 2017

With this summer’s highly unfortunate fire activity, evacuation warnings and orders, we all learned important lessons: Being good stewards and neighbors is far more important than promoting negativity, pointing fingers and being critical of others. What we experienced this summer as a result of the significant threats to property and life, was people putting their differences aside, neighbor helping neighbor and the entire community of Seeley Lake coming together to assist one another through extremely challenging times. As we move forward f...

  • Your Bullet, Your Responsibility

    Andi Bourne, Pathfinder|Oct 13, 2016

SEELEY LAKE – Ever hear a gun shot in town and wonder if it’s legal? The short answer is, yes, it is legal. However, the long answer is it depends on a number of factors including safety, proximity to structures and land ownership. “When you start talking about firearms to Montanans or Americans, the first thing a lot of people think about is [their] second amendment rights,” said Federal Officer Tyler Robinson. “It’s a constitutional amendment and I value it deeply. But when it comes to harming or hurting another person, public safety is p...

  • Too Many Choices

Joann Wallenburn, Double Arrow Land Owners Association|May 12, 2016

The deadline for this article is four hours away and I still can't decide which of many topics to write about. We live in a wonderfully diverse place which is only adding to my decision problems. I started with the intention of writing about the Western Spruce Budworm infestation that is going strong in our area, only to discover that Andi Bourne wrote a terrific article about it just last July. There isn't much more to add to her article except to stress that the best weapon against the wide...

    Nov 26, 2015

SEELEY LAKE – Born May 9, 1931, at home in the small town of Mekinock, N.D., it was debated for years whether Rodney Allen Kvamme actually arrived on Mother's Day or not. His mother Hilda Kvamme and father Martin Kvamme debated for years as to the actual day, as it was never actually recorded on his official birth certificate until the late 1960s in order to establish a passport. So, May 9 it is. Rodney passed from this earth Nov. 8, 2015, at age 84 (plus or minus that actual day). He follows h... Full story
