  • Rebuttal to the Swan Valley Emergency Service's Concerns on the Flathead National Forest Draft Forest Plan

    Kari Gunderson, Condon, Mont.|Sep 15, 2016

SWAN VALLEY - I would like to offer a response to the Pathfinder’s Sept. 1, 2016 article “Swan Valley Emergency Services Expresses Concerns with Forest Plan Draft.” In 1989 I lost my home to fire and am grateful for the response by the Swan Valley Volunteer Fire Department. Since then I have made monetary donations (when I can) and in-kind donations. I appreciate and value the efforts of local volunteers who donate time to help homeowners like me. However, I feel compelled to address some of the misinformation and half-truths that are being...

  • Changes and Psychological Complexes

    Ken Silvestro PhD.|Sep 15, 2016

In the previous article, a willingness and a resistance to change were introduced in a general way. In this article, I want to be more specific. So, let's look at changes with respect to complexes. Remember that complexes are part of our personal unconscious (hidden) psychologies and are triggered/activated by situations, people or comments in our daily lives. When triggered, the complex overrides our personalities and we express ourselves through the complex until the activated complex moves...

  • Treating Weeds with Herbicides under Drought Conditions

Karen Laitala, Powell County Weeds District|Sep 15, 2016

Weed management is highly impacted by high temperatures combined with low and variable precipitation. Hot weather and drought affect the germination, growth, hardiness and competitive ability of both desirable plants and weeds. Many weeds, once established, need very little water to survive. Perennial weed species such as spotted knapweed, field bindweed and Canada thistle have extensive, deep root systems and are able to “mine” water. Perennial weeds and other plants also have the ability to establish a dormant state for some time during wat...

  • The Power of Words

Shane Kesterke, Elder, Mission Bible Fellowship|Sep 15, 2016

Words have power. Words are a primary method of communication. They can change the destiny of nations, causing war or peace. When spoken, they can stick in our memories for our entire lives, and even beyond as we pass them on to others. When written down, they can survive for centuries and millennia. The Bible is composed of words. It is God’s message to humans, penned by men, inspired by God Himself, written down, surviving for millennia. And the Bible itself shows the power of words. In the third verse of the Bible, Genesis 1:3, God spoke the...
