Missoula County Elections Office reported the unofficial results from the May 2 election. Results show incumbent Courtney Hathaway received 33% of the votes for the two open positions in the Potomac School Trustee election. She was followed by incumbent Wes Mitchell with 22% and Patrick Brewer with 11%. Five write-ins made up 0.66% of the results. I would like to take this time to respond to a letter sent to the editor a few weeks ago which expressed some frustration in a lack of local coverage. The Seeley Lake region saw an uptick in burglaries last week with three reported in just seven days. But according to the Missoula County Sheriff’s Department they aren’t related incidents and they aren’t even all burglaries. Some extreme winter conditions this year led to abnormally high fish fatality rates in the Blackfoot Valley. The ice had mostly melted off Brown's Lake by May 1. While this would normally mean the start of fishing season this year had local fishermen worried. In the wake of that melting ice, scores of dead fish were found. Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen announced that over 17,000 Montanans who were tricked by TurboTax’s owner Intuit into paying to file their federal tax return. They will begin receiving checks from a settlement announced last year. The checks, totaling over a half-million dollars, will be mailed throughout the month of May. On Saturday, May 6, the Seeley Lake Fire Department conducted a training exercise for extracting persons trapped in a vehicle after a crash. Firefighters practiced techniques for quickly gaining access to damaged vehicles and safely removing anyone trapped inside.
