  • For the love of dogs

    Andi Bourne, Pathfinder|Apr 2, 2020

SEELEY LAKE – "The more time we spend with our dogs, the better that relationship is going to be and the more value you are going to have in the eyes of your dog," said Julee Samuli, a certified dog trainer who lives in Seeley Lake. "A lot of people think training is cues - that is static and boring. Helping people know how to have fun, play and train at the same time gets people more involved with their dogs and they want to spend more time with their dog." Dogs have been an essential part o...

  • Get the Sewer Board back in the hands of the people - Vote Morris and Gilpin

    Troy Spence, Seeley Lake, Mont.|Apr 2, 2020

SEELEY LAKE - As I sit here waiting out the coronavirus to pass, I realize the only other thing that will kill you is the cost of a sewer in Seeley Lake. The people of Seeley need Tom Morris and Jason Gilpin on the board to clean up the corruption from the lawyer and manager who say they represent the citizens of the town. The lawyer and the manager do not care about the non-supporters and refuse to work for a system that is affordable. I sit and think all they are for is a paycheck paid by everyone in the district. This is the reason why the...

  • Walls of water, potatoes, zucchini & row covers

    Molly Hackett, Master Gardener|Apr 2, 2020

Q: What are walls of water? A: They are 18-inch plastic cylinders which act like miniature greenhouses. The wall forms a circle of water-filled tubes. Walls of water can be purchased at a hardware or garden supply store or online. With reasonable care they last for many years. Walls of water let you plant tomatoes, for instance, four weeks early-not longer than that, because the plant would grow out the top. Inside the wall, temperatures stay above freezing, even when outside temperatures are...

CJ Johnson, Missoula County Fire Protection Association|Apr 2, 2020

Springtime marks a pretty big occasion in Montana- time to tidy up the landscaping from last year's growth before the new buds bloom. It's time to freshen up the mix fuel, to fire up the chainsaw and trimmer, sharpen the clippers, fill the tire on the wheelbarrow, hand the rake to the teenager and make a run for lawn bags or prepare the burn pile site and go online for a burn permit. For information on burn permits and safe practices, visit mcfpa.org We want to get these chores done to freshen...

  • Protect yourself, stay home and help others

    Missoula County Commissioners|Apr 2, 2020

We grew up listening to our parents and grandparents tell stories of personal sacrifice during World War II: rationing, conserving, sharing and pulling together as families, communities and the nation to achieve victory against a common enemy. While we've experienced multiple wars in the subsequent decades, rarely, if ever, have we as a nation experienced sacrifice on the home front at such a visceral and shared level until now. Today, the enemy is very different, but it requires every bit the...

  • FWP adjusts facility management, state lands remain open for day use

    Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks|Apr 2, 2020

Montanans are lucky to have so many opportunities to get outdoors and recreate, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. And while Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks encourages recreation outside, we also encourage careful planning and prudence. The safety of the public and FWP staff is of utmost concern. As a reminder, social distancing guidelines should be followed at all FWP sites. Keep your distance from fellow recreators. If a parking lot at a fishing access site or state park is full, consider another place to recreate. Also, in keeping with...

  • Meeting needs outside the church walls

    Andi Bourne, Pathfinder|Apr 2, 2020

SEELEY LAKE – When schools were closed for an additional week following spring break, Mission Bible Fellowship's Kids Club Coordinator Erika Wilson came up with the idea to put together Boredom Buster Bags to spark students' creativity and provide opportunities for parents to entertain their children. What Wilson didn't expect was how many new people in the community she met handing out the bags and how grateful parents and grandparents were for the entertainment supplies. During an MBF small g...

  • Hairbrained or harebrained?

    Betty Vanderwielen, Pathfinder|Apr 2, 2020

SEELEY LAKE – The word "hairbrained" conjures images of Lucy from the "I Love Lucy" show engaging in hilarious and unsuccessful attempts to get into show business or to make money as in the famous chocolate factory episode. No doubt Lucy's mop of red hair helped to perpetuate the spelling of "hairbrained." Though both spellings are in common usage, the more correct spelling is "harebrained" because the original reference is not to hair but to the species of rabbit known as the European or b...

  • Give me true peace

Pastor Jim Johnson, Pastor, Seeley Lake Baptist Church|Apr 2, 2020

The COVID-19 virus is causing panic and fear and no one likes the uncertainty. So, we all scream for some peace and stability in this chaotic world. We wrestle with trust and not having control. However, this struggle is universal and comes with living in a fallen world. Believers in Jesus Christ know that God is in total control. Those who deny God's existence or who do not turn to Him in their lives, deny themselves the greatest treatment for fear, anxiety, worry and doubt. Our God offers us s...

While COVID-19 poses a significant threat to our physical health, it also threatens our mental and emotional health. We're concerned about infection and the health of loved ones.
