  • County enters Phase 1b vaccine distribution

Tier one of Phase 1b includes county residents ages 70 and older, Native Americans and other people of color. Following these groups, appointments will be opened to younger individuals who meet other eligibility criteria under this Phase. Due to high demand and limited doses, Phase 1b appointments will open with a tiered approach as required by the Missoula City-County Health Department (MCCHD). • Examining the risks of a "No" vote for bonds

    Nathan Bourne, Pathfinder|Feb 4, 2021

SEELEY LAKE - The fate of a pair of bonds to fund Seeley Lake’s proposed sewer system is in the hands of the voters with ballots being mailed out Feb. 3. If the bonds pass in the Feb. 23 election, the Seeley Lake Sewer District can move forward to finish checking off the conditions of the funding package and put the proposed sewer project out to bid. However the water gets muddier when looking at the impacts of a “no” vote. The Pathfinder reached out to the Missoula City-County Health Department, Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ...

  • Question the source

    Mike McGrew, Seeley Lake, Montana|Feb 4, 2021

After reading Roxie Sterling’s latest installment I am left in absolute awe of her access to “facts” not available to the average citizen whose sources of information are limited to such suspect tabloids as the Wall Street Journal, New York Times or, God forbid, that liberal rag the Missoulian. Perhaps she should have a regular column in which she enlightens the rest of us poor benighted souls with the truth of what is really happening in America. Maybe then we would learn the little-known facts of the moon-landing hoax, the dark forces that...

    Dale Terrillion, Proctor, Montana|Feb 4, 2021

In the spirit of Nancy Pelosi, Mr. Lombardi gave us a full-page report in his Letter to the Editor in the Pathfinder’s Jan. 21 issue. If he thinks Daines and Trump were bad, wait till Chuck Shummer, A.O.C., Bernie and Biden’s cabinet appointments get done raid’n the treasury and our freedoms. Give’em a year, if it takes that long. Please come back and give us another full-page report. Across the page Mike Hopkins gave us the kind of Legislative update we expect. Thanks Mike....

  • Spreading lies further divides

    Karen Pratt, Seeley Lake, Montana|Feb 4, 2021

Last week there was a letter in this newspaper called “Where is the unity.” The first paragraph said those who “went into the Capitol unlawfully” should be prosecuted… I agree. But that is where my agreement with this letter ends. Unity could come from people looking at pertinent data for a particular question and having a meaningful debate. This article is full of misrepresentations of situations and inflammatory rhetoric. The person writing this article repeats false narratives, (i.e. lies). It’s not the first time the author has done this....

  • Vote NO on Sewer Bonds

    Troy Spence, Seeley Lake, Montana|Feb 4, 2021

SEELEY LAKE - I am writing in response to Curt Friede’s letter last week. Curt has given false information regarding the Seeley Lake Sewer Project. I contacted the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) last year and asked if Seeley Lake was on a watch list for sewer contaminates and the answer was NO. I asked if Seeley Lake had higher then the state law for contaminates in the water and the answer was NO. I asked if the DEQ would enforce a sewer if the project was voted down and the answer was NO. I have an email to verify this. So yes, I...

  • Rebuttal to Friede's sewer letter

    Don Larson, Seeley Lake, Montana|Feb 4, 2021

SEELEY LAKE - Curt Friede’s letter to the editor about the sewer proposal last week suggests we “get the facts.” Here are a few: Fact: Mr. Friede of one of the parties suing the sewer district board to force them to build the sewer. Fact: There is NO SIGNIFICANT groundwater nitrate degradation, in the groundwater OR the lake, that we know of definitively. The engineers recommended water quality testing in all four sewer “sub-districts” but test wells were drilled in only two. Of those two, only one was tested regularly and it consisten...

  • Working for our electorate every day

Representative Mike Hopkins, House District 92|Feb 4, 2021

Things are finally in full swing in the Legislature. The appropriations subcommittees are starting to wrap up their work. After they finish, the full Appropriations committee will come back together and start putting the budget together. Revenue is hard to estimate here with the pandemic and the policies coming out of government and leaving a lot of unknowns out there. But on the budget side we have a pretty good idea of where we are heading. We think that we will be able to reach our target of...

  • Conversations around water

Kate Clyatt, Blackfoot Challenge Drought Technician|Feb 4, 2021

If you've been around in the Blackfoot long enough, there's a good chance you've heard the words "Murphy right" or "Milltown right" thrown around. If you're an irrigator in the watershed, you've probably been affected by one or both of these instream water rights. Due to recent changes in water law, any surface water rights with a priority date junior to 1904 could be called in a drought year if flows in the Blackfoot River are low enough to warrant restrictions. Luckily, because of the long...

  • Incident Commander clarifies COVID terminology

    Henry Netherland, Pathfinder|Feb 4, 2021

MISSOULA COUNTY - When one positive case of COVID-19 has the power to disrupt the operations for an entire institution, clarifying what is considered an active case versus a positive test can be important when determining the contagiousness of an individual. According to Cindy Farr, Missoula City-County Health Department COVID-19 incident commander, a positive test is someone who tests positive for COVID-19 while an active case is someone who has tested positive and is still in the contagious... Full story

  • Our Father in Heaven

Pastor Craig Wilson, Pastor - Mission Bible Fellowship|Feb 4, 2021

I find great encouragement from the Lord's Prayer to give shape to my own prayers. Rather than just a rote prayer, Jesus gave us the Lord's Prayer as an outline to teach us how we should pray. When we pray through the Lord's Prayer, phrase by phrase, we understand how God is leading us to pray. The opening phrase, "Our Father in heaven" is a powerful reminder and truth of the personal access we have to God through our prayers. During the Apollo space missions to the moon, there were long, uncomf...

  • Economic Impact Payment debit cards issued

    Missoula Aging Services|Feb 4, 2021

Calls are being received at local Area Agencies on Aging reporting that a credit card arrived in the mail from “Money Network Financial” saying that they represent the US Treasury and to call to activate the card. These are legitimate cards. Some eight million Americans are receiving their stimulus payments on a pre-paid debit card sent through the mail, in addition to others who will receive the payment via paper checks or automatic deposits. Just because the last payment was received one way, does not mean it will be received the same way... Full story
