  • Speak up about new wolf laws

    Elinor Williamson, Saint Petersburg, Florida|Oct 21, 2021

After reading how the wolves are going to be maintained now, I was sick at heart. Gray wolves are already in danger due to humans. Hopefully they will be listed before they are all killed off. Now we hear from the governor and legislature, who I doubt have ever seen a live wolf, and give free rein to those who will allow the slaughter of these wolves by traps. It is such a cruel and unsporting way for wolves and a terrible danger for our dogs, cats and other animals. Then they say baiting can be used. Such a sportsman to stand and shoot an...

  • Another senseless killing

    Elinor Williamson, Seeley Lake, Mont.|May 23, 2019

SEELEY LAKE - Another senseless bear killing…why?? After being shot in the face by a shotgun and blinded, the bear was unable to see and stumbled around while someone laughed. The game warden was able to capture the bear and put it down to end its suffering. How very inhumane this was. How cruel. What was the reason for shooting this bear? Was it in your garbage, in your chicken house, attacking you or are you just another person who just likes to kill or hurt a bear? The ignorance and killing of bears must STOP! In my 27 years of living h...

  • An inspirational family

    Elinor Williamson, Seeley Lake, Mont.|Jan 24, 2019

The article on the Loesch family was very inspiring. I cannot imagine working and baking like Jean Loesch did with six little kids running around and then having to have a breakfast, lunch and dinner for nine people everyday plus doing the baking she did. All I can say is Jean you are a super woman! Thanks to everyone else who donated his or her time and money to help The Watson Children’s Shelter. Cory’s Valley Market helps many other organizations, so please shop locally. It helps many. How great all the little Loesch children emptied the...

  • Please Pause for Pets and People

    Elinor Williamson|Jun 1, 2017

After writing columns for 20 years I must take time off. I must thank all of you who read my columns and in so many ways have helped change people and helped save many cats’ and dogs’ lives. We must stay vigilante and always stand tall when it comes to cruelty and abuse of children and pets. I thank you all for supporting our cake sales in many ways and helping The Ed Jackson Helping Pets Fund, which is no more, and the Potomac Animal Shelter. The shelter is always in need of funds and has saved so many abused pets and found them loving hom...

  • Please Pause for Pets and People

    Elinor Williamson|May 4, 2017

Not sure if I had this in my last column so thought I would tell you about my neighbor across the street. He went out early one morning to get his pickup and there stood a moose. I’m not sure who scared each other the worse but he said the moose took off running. Pretty unlikable to happen but it is so. Well as we all know the bears are out and coming out. Remember to put your garbage where it is safe from the bears! Someone didn’t and the small bear got in the garbage and the man shot the little bear. Pretty stupid thing to do in my opi...

Well our Cakes for Canines event Monday, April 3 at Pop's Place was a howling success! Thanks to Tim and Connie Clark for donating all the food and good service. Special thanks to Doug Richards, his sign and standing out in the cold in a dog suit getting lots of honks and waving people in. Also, thanks to Monty Montgomery for a special lamp which was on a board which was full of names. Monty is a pretty good waiter also. Winners on Elinor's board: Juan's Print- Gary Lewis • Bath Robe- Mary N...

  • Tell Your Representatives to Vote YES on HB 570

    Elinor Williamson, Seeley Lake, Mont.|Mar 16, 2017

Once again we see the horrors of puppy mills, with 38 dogs found last week. Will you please stop this terrible cruelty by calling your Representative and Senator and ask them to vote ‘Yes’ on House Bill (HB) 570, the bill that is in the House and Labor committees and requires licensure and inspection for pet breeders. Please call 406-444-4800. When someone answers tell them you want them to vote yes on HB570 and leave a message for our Representative Mike Hopkins to please vote yes. I have called Hopkins twice and have not received an ans...

Condon, a great and thriving community, has just added another reason to visit Condon, a DOG GROOMER! Yes, a business which is so needed. You can message Brenda Phelps Mitchell on Facebook or call 406-590-3935 for an appointment. I visited with Brenda on the phone and she was very accommodating in answering my questions. Give her a call. We have needed a groomer for years. While waiting for your dog to get groomed visit other businesses, places and people. Becky of All Decked Out, has a new puppy named Oden. He gets to go to the shop with her a...

  • Please Pause for Pets and People

    Elinor Williamson|Feb 9, 2017

Well the birds are coming back already. I have the usual winter ones but I also have a couple of little wrens. I bet they wonder why they came back so soon. They like the seeds and suet feeders so they will be fine. The big cats are out so please watch your dogs while they are out and don’t leave them out alone while you are gone unless you have someone to watch them. Also people are again stealing dogs, especially purebreds. There were two reported in Missoula and there is a Brittney Spaniel missing in the Grant Creek area. There is a $...

Congratulations to all for doing such a good job caring for your pets through this terrible cold spell! I did not receive one call about a pet out in the cold, nor did I hear that Animal Control was called. We were worried about a big black dog with long hair that was running around as if lost. I tried to get him but couldn’t get close to him. The Pathfinder posted it on Facebook so I hope people found him and he is okay. Received two nice thank you pictures of pets. Thanks Kiva and Sitka. Also a great picture of Portia known as Stinkerbug a...

Alert! For those who warm up their car in the garage, please make sure you do not leave your pet in the garage after leaving. Carbon monoxide could kill your pet from the fumes of your car. Best to back your car outside then warm it up. Carbon monoxide accumulates and can filter in and fill up the garage and seep into your home. Please everyone out there get a carbon monoxide detector. Save your family and your pet, a detector would make a great Christmas present. There has been a mountain lion hanging around the top of Cedar Lane near the...

A big Thank You to all who helped with our bake sale in October. To the ones who brought baked goods and to those who came and bought the great baked goods. Also, thank you to our great boosters who donated cash. The donations were so welcome, needed and appreciated. There is a lot of work going on at the Paws Up Animal Shelter headed by Rod Stevens Construction. It is very needed. Thanks Rod, Kathy and crew. Hopefully, Hazel will have time for a big opening to the public in early spring when it’s warmer. Once again we have dogs running on R...

  • Marx Understands Small Business Struggles

    Elinor Williamson, Seeley Lake, Mont.|Oct 27, 2016

Addrien Marx is who and what we need for House District 92. Throw away the ugly card you were sent by the Montana Republican legislative campaign. Apparently they were all sitting on a thin branch in a tall tree and the branch broke and they fell on their heads. So I will enlighten them. Marx was a schoolteacher and knows how important education is; Marx will always work hard for education. Marx and her husband Larry bought a small business on a thread and worked hours and hours trying to make a go of it, while raising five children. When...

Don’t forget THE BAKE SALE Friday, Oct. 21 at Cory’s Valley Market from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. We welcome your bake goods and we sure welcome all who attend and buy our delicious baked goods. Please come and help the pets. I came across these pet facts in a magazine. Owning a pet can be good for your health. Pets can be a source of friendship and affection but can also have a positive effect on your health. Studies have shown pet owners suffer fewer headaches and colds than non-pet owners. Petting and loving a pet can reduce heart rates and even...

  • Shooting the Bear in Dogtown was Unethical - Individuals Should Have Been Charged

    Elinor Williamson, Seeley Lake, Mont.|Oct 13, 2016

SEELEY LAKE - So the hazing of a bear by two people and a dog in a pickup for an hour is legal and then calling a friend with tags to shoot the bear once it was hazed to the right property is legal? Well, people, the parties got by with it because no one took the time to interview the people who knew the truth. Oh yes, people reported it, but the game warden, in my opinion, chose not to call the people for the truth. To the hazers and the shooter of the bear: In my opinion you are unethical. You have no empathy and you all should be sitting in...

    Elinor Williamson|Sep 22, 2016

So all you wonderful people out there who help us so much by bringing baked goods, here we go again on Oct. 21, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., at Cory’s Valley Market. The Ed Jackson Fund is running low as we have helped many people with their dogs and cats. And Paws Up of Potomac can always use funds because there is two feedings a day. Oct. 22 is opening day of hunting and Halloween is coming so a few little packages would work for a few. Brenda, you have your assignment as does Lynn F. We hope for some new people to help us. For the men, if you d...

Tickets are also available there. All proceeds benefit Paws Up Safe Home Animal Shelter. The drawing will be held at the Sept. 4 Seeley Lake Farmers’ & Crafters’ Market at 1 p.m. By now all of you have read or heard of the puppy mills in Charlo and Libby. • The Horror of Puppy Mills

    Elinor Williamson, Seeley Lake, Mont.|Aug 4, 2016

After viewing the horror of the Charlo puppy mill, are we the people going to stand up to our senators and reps and demand they get and sign a bill abolishing puppy mills?? Our state is known for open doors on puppy mills. That’s why when they get abolished in other states they flee to Montana. It’s time to say no more! Puppy mills are cruel, evil places! To the politicians, read the Bible. God gave us horses for work and pleasure, gave us cattle and chickens for food in return for care, as all animals are to be cared for. God gave us dogs and...

    Elinor Williamson|Jul 28, 2016

ALERT! THERE IS A SICK PERSON TARGETING RIVER WATCH, WHO IS POISONING PETS AND THE DEER. PLEASE WATCH FOR THEM IN THE LATE EVENING, PROBABLY AFTER DARK. THE SHERIFFS AND GAME WARDEN HAVE BEEN ALERTED!! Well, the Pathfinder party was great and it was nice to see the former owners, who were great to work with also. Donna Love gave me a signed copy of her new book "Bandit" so very good and educational. Donna also donated some books to our Paws Up Shelter to sell, which was so thoughtful. It was...

    Elinor Williamson|Jun 30, 2016

Once again we want to thank all of you who helped make our last bake sale such a success. We must start with the Swansons who donated the beautiful wooden bowls. They were a big hit! The little dog pillow cases were a hit also. To all who bought and brought the goodies, we are extremely grateful and thank you very much. Now if we can get Brenda to bring 18 carrot cakes the next time, we will have another great sale. The four she brought went great and people wanted more. As with Connie's which...

  • Update on the Animal Control Air Conditioning

    Elinor Williamson, Seeley Lake, Mont.|Jun 16, 2016

MISSOULA - Several have called me in regard of the air conditioning unit for The Missoula Animal Control building of which many of us contributed to. So, I called Jeff the head of Animal Control and he stated pretty much the following. Before Animal Control could have it installed they had to have a structural engineer check out the building where the unit would be placed and he found problems in the upper building. This has been fixed. By the time it was fixed, the business, who had said they would install it at no cost, found the cost and it...

  • In Response to Jean Curtiss's Letter

    Elinor Williamson, Seeley Lake, Mont.|Jun 2, 2016

MISSOULA - I was surprised to read the vindictive letter Jean wrote about Stacy Rye. Is Jean afraid of losing her power she has held for to long? If Jean checked she would know Stacy is in Helena Thursday, May 26 trying to get the state to lower the speed limit in Seeley Lake and other smaller communities. There are people going at least 60 miles per hour as they go through our town and I am sure it is that way with other small towns. Stacy is working for Missoula but also for our small communities. Jean endorses Dave because he is also as Mr....

Well, it seems I put the cart before the horse on saying we have curbed the running dogs. After driving down Riverview every other day, I saw a pack of five dogs running all together on the street and on the sidewalk. People, this is nuts. What are you thinking? Yes, I recognized four of the dogs so beware, I have called animal control. The people who live on this street do not have to put up with this. They can’t even walk the sidewalk or walk their dogs on a leash without harassment. People, you are going to end up with big fines when t...

  • Rye Offers More than the Usual Closed Door

    Elinor Williamson, Seeley Lake, Mont.|May 19, 2016

MISSOULA – Hopefully you read the big card from Stacy Rye who is running as a democrat to retain her seat as Missoula County Commissioner. Stacy has been endorsed by the mayor, all the council members, Carol Williams and many county leaders. Why, you ask? It is because she feels the people want and need more transparency from the commissioners such as minutes taken and meetings recorded. Before they make a decision, which affects all of the people of the county, they will have a voice, and decisions will not be made behind closed doors with n...

  • Keep Rye as Commissioner

    Elinor Williamson, Seeley Lake, Mont.|May 5, 2016

MISSOULA - Finally someone got it right in Missoula and had guts enough to have it in the Pathfinder and hopefully in the Missoulian! Thank you Tyler Gernant, who is the clerk and treasurer of Missoula County. You beat me to it and your letter is much more informational. I wish to add to your letter. Stacy Rye has been a commissioner for seven months and has done a great job. This includes standing up to Jean Curtiss, which the others should, instead of being led by the nose and punished if one dares as we see in the case of Stacy Rye in my...
