Three-on-Three Tournament to Help Fight Childhood Hunger

SEELEY LAKE – Seeley Lake Elementary eighth-grader Hannah Ayers is looking for basketball players and enthusiasts who not only love the game of basketball but who will also join the fight against childhood hunger in Montana. She is hosting a three-on-three basketball tournament April 22 at Seeley-Swan High School to collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations to support the Seeley-Swan Community Food Bank during Fight Childhood Hunger Week.

Ayers was one of 20 students across the state chosen for the Governor and First Lady Youth Leadership Council. The intent of the council is to empower students from seventh grade through senior year to implement a childhood hunger fight in their communities.

Ayers choose the three-on-three basketball tournament as her project for Fight Childhood Hunger Week April 17-23.

“It just seems like something that would be fun,” said Ayers.

Anyone in fifth grader or older, including adults, are encouraged to put together a team. Sign up by emailing Ayers at ilovetorunlong3@gmail.com. Deadline to sign up is April 16. The cost to play is one non-perishable food item per person.

The games start at 10 a.m., Sunday, April 22. The schedule for the tournament will be emailed to all team captains, posted at SSHS the day of the tournament and will be available on the Seeley Swan Pathfinder’s Facebook page. The winning team will receive a prize.

The community is encouraged to come watch, support the players and help raise awareness for childhood hunger in Montana by bringing food and donations for the local food bank. Local governmental representatives will also be in attendance to further the discussion of childhood hunger.
