Community Supports Destinations for Education

SEELEY LAKE - "Can I get $350?" shouted auctioneer Gene Schade over the heckling. The bidding war ensued over a classic loaded carrot cake filled with cream cheese and drizzled with caramel until Vicki Voeglin, organizer from the first Dessert Night seven years ago, stepped in, "I can solve this. We will pay Laura to make another one and you can each have one for $350...$700 for the kids." Schade yelled, "Sold!"

This was the final fundraiser for the Destinations for Education students traveling to Costa Rica this April for 10 days of Spanish immersion. Students, parents and community members donated desserts. Seeley Lake Elementary Spanish teacher and trip chaperone Bridget Laird said they raised around $2,000. On the Destinations for Education Facebook page they posted a "heart-felt "thank you" to the wonderful community members that came out last Friday night to our Dessert Night."
