Blackhawks' Seasons End at Divisional Tournaments

HAMILTON - The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks both ran into season ending competition at the Western C Divisional Tournament. The Girls lost their opening game with Charlo and succumbed to Manhattan Christian while the Boys fell to Plains before Gardner eliminated them.

The Lady Blackhawks and Charlo both struggled to put points on the board in the first quarter. Charlo racked up an 11-point lead by the half. The Lady Blackhawks weren't giving up and fought back to within a couple points by the end of the third quarter.

The final frame wasn't so friendly to the Lady Blackhawks as Charlo pulled out of reach, sending the Ladies to the consolation bracket, 26-40.

Chloe Robbins led the Ladies with 8 points against Charlo.

Also scoring: Klaire Kovatch 6, Autumn Morse 4, Ashley Miller 4, Jory Towe 2 and Terra Bertsch 2.

The Lady Blackhawks came out strong against Manhattan Christian nearly matching them point for point in the first quarter but slipped behind in the second and third quarter. Though the Lady Blackhawks outscored Manhattan Christian in the final frame, it was too little too late. The final score was 38-50.

Kovatch led the Lady Blackhawks with 4 baskets for 8 points. Bertsch and Morse hit the team's only three pointers.

Also scoring: Bertsch 7, Miller 6, Lily Mercer 5, Morse 5, Towe 4, Aspen Conley 2 and Robbins 1.

The Blackhawks had a rough start against Plains, falling 14 points behind by the end of the first quarter. The Boys fought hard through the middle of the game and took a run at Plains in the final quarter but it wasn't enough. The final score was 47-58.

Avery Smith led the Boys with 17 points. Keaton Johnson also scored into the double digits with 12. The team hit 90 percent from the free throw line with Smith, Keaton and Dakota Wood all hitting 100 percent. Cameron Haines hit a pair of three pointers for 6 points while Smith and Cordell Turner each had one.

Also scoring: Chance Johnson 4, Turner 3, Wood 3 and Hunter Shelmerdine 1.

Gardiner outshot the Blackhawks throughout the game, pulling further and further out of reach to a final score of 79-43.

Smith again led the Blackhawks with 13 points with 9 of those from free throws. Keaton and Chance hit the Blackhawks' only three pointers.

Also scoring: Chance 8, Wood 7, Haines 7, Owen Mercado 3, Keaton 3 and Turner 2.

After handing the Lady Blackhawks their first loss, Charlo's girls advanced to the semi-final where they fell to Ennis, 15-31. Charlo was eliminated from the tournament by Clark Fork in their next game, 48-50.

The Manhattan Christian girls went on to defeat Arlee, 44-42, and then fell to Clark Fork, 39-63, in the consolation game.

In the Championship game, the girls of Twin Bridges defeated Ennis 37-35. Ennis will join Twin Bridges at the state tournament after defeating Clark Fork, 54-33, in a challenge game Feb. 26.

After defeating the Blackhawks, the boys from Plains defeated Twin Bridges, 56-46, in the semi-final. Gardiner's boys fell to Manhattan Christian 60-79 in their next game.

Plains was defeated by Arlee, 33-77, in the championship. Plains then fell, 32-61, in a challenge game Feb. 26 to Manhattan Christian.
