Representative Hopkins Files for Re-election

Politics these days can be brutal. On the airwaves people act as if disagreeing on some particular policy is grounds to hate one another but that hasn't been my experience representing the people of House District 92.

When I first ran to represent this district, one of the things that I fell in love with was the way that people treat each other. Sure, we have real, stark differences when it comes to our individual political view's but we never let that get in the way of treating one another with respect. That's because we realize that what really binds us together as a group of citizens isn't politics but community, faith and hard work. Republicans and Democrats in this district live next door to each other and work with each other. Our children go to school with each other and grow up with one another. That's real Montana, that's House District 92.

Representing you in the State Legislature, I have tried to bring that spirit of working together to build common sense solutions to Helena and although we still face challenges, we have made a lot of progress. With the 2018 campaign season starting up, I am running for re-election to continue to bring your values to the State Legislature.

When I was going door-to-door during the last campaign, I said that the next few legislative sessions would be focused on the state budget. I said that I would serve on the House Appropriations Committee and the State Infrastructure Committee to make sure that rural Montana had a voice when it came to the state's budget. Now, as your Representative, I serve on House Appropriations, the State Infrastructure Committee and the Legislative Finance Committee and our district has a voice in every financial decision that the State of Montana makes.

Although we still face serious challenges when it comes to the state's budget, we ended the 2017 session with the most conservative budget Montana has seen in the last 20 years. We made the biggest investment in infrastructure in the modern history of the state. We passed sweeping reforms to our criminal justice system, cut red tape which was holding back Montana businesses and protected Montanans' constitutional rights and liberties.

Over the coming months, I intend to knock on every door in this district, listening to your concerns and discussing solutions to the problems that we face as a district and a state.

I would be honored to have your support once again and I am asking for your vote in the June 5 Primary!
