Blackhawks Split on the Road

SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks were on the road last week. The Boys were victorious over Clark Fork while the Ladies fell Jan. 26. The next night, the Lady Blackhawks found success against Plains while the Boys fell.

The Boys got off to a slow start against Clark Fork before taking off in the second half. They then blew the game out in the final frame scoring a whopping 31 points to a final score of 71-30.

Keaton Johnson led the assault on Clark Fork with 17 points with 9 of those from the free throw line. Two other boys broke into the double digits. Chance Johnson made 6 baskets for his 12 points and Cameron Haines sank 3, three pointers on his way to 11 points.

Also scoring: Avery Smith 8, Owen Mercado 7, Hunter Sokoloski 5, Hunter Shelmerdine 4, Cordell Turner 4 and Dakota Wood 3.

The Ladies fell behind Clark Fork right from the beginning. The game got really ugly in the third quarter when the girls only scored 4 points, all from free throws.

Though they were trailing more than 30 points they never gave up. Autumn Morse put in 3, three pointers in the final frame for her 9 game points. Kara Good and Klaire Kovatch each added a basket to make it the Ladies best quarter. Final score was 32-58.

Also scoring: Ashley Miller 8, Kovatch 6, Jory Towe 2, Chloe Robbins 2, Good 2, Aspen Conley 2 and Terra Bertsch 1.

The Lady Blackhawks had a better start against Plains putting up a massive 22-point lead in the first half. They needed nearly every bit of it as they hit a wall in the third quarter, scoring just 4 points to Plains' 15. The Lady Blackhawks held on in the final quarter to the 48-42 victory.

Robbins and Morse lead the Lady Blackhawks with 11 points each. Bertsch and Miller followed close behind with 10 points each. Kovatch put in 3 baskets for 6 points.

The Boys traded the lead back and forth with Plains in the first half. They headed into the second half up just 3 points and soon found themselves trailing. Plains slipped out of reach in the final quarter. The final score was 49-58.

Haines led the Blackhawks, sinking 4, three pointers on his way to 16 points. Keaton was on fire again from the free throw line hitting 9 of 10. He added a three pointer for a total of 12 points. Overall the boys hit 12 of 15 free throws.

Also scoring: Chance 8, Wood 6, Smith 4, Turner 2 and Shelmerdine 1.

This week

This week the Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks head to Drummond Feb. 1 with JV girls starting at 4 p.m. There will be no JV boys at Drummond.

The teams will then host Lincoln Feb. 2 starting at 3 p.m. The Varsity Boys must finish up their game from earlier in the season that was interrupted by an electrical outage. The Ladies JV will play a half game ahead of the Varsity Girls and then the Varsity Boys will take to the court for the final game.
