60-Home Subdivision, Trails Committee Funds, Air Quality at Next Council Meeting

SEELEY LAKE - A proposed 60-home subdivision will head the agenda at next Monday’s Seeley Lake Community Council.

Kurt Fredericks, a lifelong builder who is a consultant to the project, explained that they envision 60 high-end homes in a private community with lot sizes from one and a half to three acres. It would take between five and 10 years to complete. Fredericks said that he started coming to Seeley Lake 30 years ago, fell in love with it and will move into the subdivision. He now lives on his ranch in Helena.

Fredericks’ two sons and Martin Cahoon will be the developers. Cahoon explained that the subdivision would extend from close to the airport to Swamp Creek with Trail Creek running through the project (SW corner of Section 31).

They are at the very beginning of the permitting process and want to meet with the Community Council to find out the community’s reaction to the proposed subdivision.

Next on the agenda will be a discussion on what to do with the $10,000 in the Council’s Trails Committee account. Lisa Moisey, Missoula County Parks and Trails Program Manager, will be there to help examine alternatives, since the council is part of the county government.

Finally, Ben Schmidt, Missoula County Air Quality Specialist, will give an update on air quality.

Like always, there will be an opportunity for public comments on non-agenda items.

The informal part of the meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. next Monday, Jan. 8, at the Seeley Lake Historical Museum and Visitors Center, 2920 Highway 83, with pizza and sodas. The formal meeting will begin at

6 p.m.
