Sewer - More Troubling Issues Arise

SEELEY LAKE - This is the third time of my writing on the Seeley Lake sewer issue. Each time visiting the subject, more troubling issues arise.

First off, who are these people who are able to go against the wishes of citizens who have voted down financing the sewer? They are able to hire lawyers to find some loophole to get around the voting of residents. The capper is WE are charged to pay the lawyers. How is this possible? Is this some sort of totalitarian hidden government whose ugly head arises only when their lawyers are paid?

I have also heard there is a large parcel of land which is to be subdivided into 400 lots within the sewer district. When will the developer pay sewage fees for the 400 lots? Surely not only after they are sold, which I’ve also heard is the case. The fees for 400 lots should be a significant number and maybe make the load easier on those who must pay upfront. And by the way, were each of those 400 lots charged $79 to pay these lawyers? There are lots of questions about this whole proposal which have been asked in this very forum, and haven’t been answered.

The bottom line is the proposed system will NOT clean Seeley Lake which too many resident believe to be the case. What we’re paying for is infrastructure for developers.

This is one more thing that should be considered. Growth. You hear from all media that “growth is good.” Do consider that media rates are determined by population so they definitely have a reason to promote growth. With growth comes more infrastructure, higher taxes, more crime and more congestion. Who wants to wait a couple minutes every time they want to make a left turn onto Highway 83 from the post office? These aren’t the only problems with higher population but are enough for everyone to consider.

The way this whole proposal has been presented and handled is just not complete and there are far too many legitimate questions which haven’t been answered. I for one will be financially crippled with the cost numbers they are throwing out. It will likely put the car wash out of business.

This sewer being rammed down our throats is at best undemocratic and we should all resist until an appropriate system is in the works with something that will clean up our lake first.
