Out N' The Woods Again

It’s been a while since I lived in the Seeley-Swan. And many things and people there I truly miss. But I wouldn’t miss the smoke.

Us old folks with health problems are having a time of it, even over here in Proctor.

Like I said many years ago the Forest Rangers of yesteryear must be rollin’ over in their graves. The way the Forest Service lets these fires go till it’s humanly impossible to put them out, it’s a disgrace. Some Forest Service person, when asked why they didn’t jump on the Rice Ridge Fire when it was 60 acres or less, his answer was the ground was too steep.

Excuse me.

I worked many years for a helicopter logging outfit and know what they can do. Steep ground? Please!

We realize not all fires could be put out in a few days but most could if an immediate, aggressive effort was applied.

The Forest Service answer now is evacuate everyone and let it burn. It’s natural. And the homes that burn, the wildlife that’s roasted, where’s P.E.T.A.?

It will take Mr. Zinke or some whistle blower to put a stop to this madness. We don’t know if it’s extreme environmental groups or a Forest Service policy run amuck.

Whoever is in charge must be held responsible!

I like to remind everyone what our good Senator Conrad Burns once said. Having sized-up the modern Forest Service and BLM’s fire fighting techniques, he called it, “it’s a new government cottage industry.”
