Six Point Construction, Inc.

Business of the Week

Goal: Six Point Construction Inc. of Potomac is owned by longtime Potomac residents Bob and Crystal Cheff. The goal of Six Point Construction Inc. is two fold: to provide for family and to build the most affordable and cost effective projects for their customers.

History: Bob is a self-proclaimed "hands on" owner who prefers to do as much as possible himself. "Of course there are parts that I sub [contract] out, like concrete, plumbing and electrical," he said. In 2005, Bob and his best friend Tim Olean wanted a change in their careers. "We were building a house every year on evenings and weekends after work, so we decided to start our own business," said Bob.

Bob enjoys the hard work and likes the satisfaction at the end of the day when he visually sees what was created. This clinched the decision to decide to create the business. Bob said, "We created Six Point Construction for the independence of being self-employed, the chance to provide for my growing family and to get away from the stress related to working for someone else."

Bob said there are some challenges in being a small business like Six Point when tackling large projects and trying to complete them in a timely manner. "The business has down-sized since the loss of my business partner Tim [in 2013]," said Bob.

Six Point Construction employs two to three people in the summer and hires help when needed in the winter. Currently Bob's cousin Austin Cheff, who has worked for him for more than three years, is the crew lead. Taylor Hill works for Six Point Construction and Montana Rail Link. They also just hired Seth Smith, a senior at Hellgate High School in Missoula. "He is pretty green but I think he will be a good hand once he has a little more knowledge about the business," said Bob.

Products and Services: Six Point Construction provides start to finish new construction and all types of remodels. Whether the job is a simple deck or a brand new home, Bob enjoys being able to create something for someone. He enjoys meeting new people as well. "Most rewarding and enjoyable is when I get to see the smile on a customer's face after I have built something they really like," said Bob.
