Potomac Pioneers

There are 18 Potomac Pioneers that went out for track this year, with three more planning to join in the coming week. Head Coach Rainey Pace said that is a huge turnout.

Sixteen Potomac athletes competed in the first meet with most of them participating in five events.

Coach Pace said, "I think the students were excited to see their hard work pay off.  We had several school records broken and a lot of personal bests! I enjoyed seeing the students who have never been in track or who were trying out a new event having a good time and feeling confident."

While several Pioneers placed in the top six, Bowen Olson claimed the only gold for Potomac in the eighth grade boys 100 meter (m) Hurdles. Seventh-graders Hailey Oien and Maggie Vann took the only silvers for Potomac. Oien in the 100m and Vann in the 1600m.

Pace is excited to watch the students work hard to beat their personal records, try new events and make new friends.

"It's great seeing how excited students get when they meet their goals," said Pace. "I hope that participating in middle school track will encourage them to continue participating in high school and beyond."
