Union Creek, which runs off into the Blackfoot River, is swollen to its banks from snowmelt coming down from the hills surrounding Potomac.
Gold Creek begins at Gold Lake. It is 18 miles long and empties into the Blackfoot River draining 38 square miles of area. At the confluence of Gold Creek and the Blackfoot River April 1 (above), the runoff is starting to rush into the river as the snow melts downward from the mountains around Gold Lake.
The fifth bowl of Sheep Mountain (above) overlooks Potomac. The snowmelt runs into West Twin Creek (right) then spills into the Blackfoot River. The photo of the fifth bowl was taken March 18.
West Twin Creek drains 7.3 square miles, is approximately 5.5 miles long and drops more than 3,000 feet in elevation. The photo was taken April 1.
POTOMAC - On the mountains and hills surrounding Potomac valley, the accumulated snow on Sheep Mountain, Mineral Mountain, Gold Peak, Union Peak, Morrison Peak and others contribute to the creeks swollen with snowmelt.
Some creeks are unnamed and seasonal while other run year round like Gold, Bear, Twin, Cramer, Union, Johnson, Camas, Mormon Creek and the Rattlesnake Creek.
All drain into larger waterways including the Blackfoot River.
