Two Pyramid Lumber Employees Killed in Separate Incidents

SEELEY LAKE – Two employees of Pyramid Mountain Lumber, Inc. were killed in two separate incidents Thursday morning, Nov. 17. The first, 60-year-old David Solum of Condon, Mont. was killed in a vehicle accident while travelling south on Highway 83 around 6:15 a.m. The second victim, 66-year-old Phil Pohlman of Seeley Lake, was killed in an industrial accident during his shift at Pyramid.

Solum was involved in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 83 near mile marker 25. He was heading south to work at Pyramid. Solum was ejected from the vehicle when his vehicle rolled. He was not wearing his seat belt.

The cause of death has been ruled accidental while the manner is blunt force trauma. The Montana Highway Patrol is still investigating the details of the crash.

Just after 10 a.m. Thursday morning, emergency responders received the call that Pohlman was trapped under a vehicle.

According to Missoula County Sheriff's Sergeant and Coroner Robert Parcell, Pohlman was working on replacing springs in one of Pyramid's Ford trucks. He hoisted the truck and the place where he had attached the hoist sheered. He was trapped in the fender well. Pohlman's coworker was able to use the hoist to lift the truck off of him and began CPR. Seeley Lake Volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians arrived within a few minutes of the call.

The cause has been ruled accidental while the manner is traumatic asphyxia. OSHA will be investigating the details of the accident.
