Hospital District Receives Clean Audit Report

SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake-Swan Valley Hospital District received a positive audit report for the fiscal year ending in June 30, 2015 at the October board meeting. The board also learned that the Seeley-Swan Medical Center will have an X-ray machine in mid-November.

The audit was required by Missoula County after the district borrowed $500,000 for the expansion. Even though it was required, the board agreed it was a good thing to do to show accountability to the taxpayers.

Donald Nolan Davies, PC, Certified Public Accountant presented his audit findings to the hospital district board. He said his unmodified opinion was the numbers all looked good and the books were in good order.

Davies recommended the board open a capital improvement fund as a reserve fund instead of maintaining extra money in the operating fund. This would set aside the money for capital improvements, making it easier to differentiate between operations and capital expenditures. The board would still retain control over both funds, being able to transfer funds freely; it would allow the board to plan for future projects.

The Seeley-Swan Medical Center Registered Nurse (RN) Karen Ayers took her X-ray Licensing Exam Oct. 11. She will know in two to eight weeks if she passed. RN Joy Meyer attended the eight-day class in Billings and has begun the mentoring process for licensure.

In other business:

• No overnight camping signs will be posted around the medical center parking lot. There were people camping in the parking lot this summer. Once the area is posted with No Camping signs, then law enforcement can ask the campers to leave.

• Nine artists are displaying their artwork throughout the clinic. Photographer Diana Marcoux was a new artist added this month.

• The board noted that they have not had an election for board members since 2007. After serving six, three-year terms Mary Ann Morin announced that she will not return to the board when her term ends in May. The board will be actively recruiting interested community members to serve on the board.

• On next month’s agenda the board will discuss by-laws and proposed budget.

The next board meeting will be Nov. 14 at 5 p.m. in the Seeley Swan Medical Center conference room.
