Shooting the Bear in Dogtown was Unethical - Individuals Should Have Been Charged

SEELEY LAKE - So the hazing of a bear by two people and a dog in a pickup for an hour is legal and then calling a friend with tags to shoot the bear once it was hazed to the right property is legal? Well, people, the parties got by with it because no one took the time to interview the people who knew the truth. Oh yes, people reported it, but the game warden, in my opinion, chose not to call the people for the truth.

To the hazers and the shooter of the bear: In my opinion you are unethical. You have no empathy and you all should be sitting in jail with charges and fines. Real men and hunters buy a tag and go out in the woods and hunt for a bear. Surely the real hunters, ethical hunters and other people find you disgusting. You should have never been able to keep that bear until the real truth came out!!!

And of course, it is the owner of the land who is at fault because she didn’t have a ‘No Hunting’ sign up. So the person who had the bear on her property should have had a ‘No Hunting’ sign up when she yelled at the unethical hazers to “leave the bear alone.”

Oh yes, she has two witnesses to this, and the so called hunters with the dog in back of their pickup responded, “We are trying to get it down to a place to shoot it.”

People how horrendous and cold-hearted can you be??? So all of you people in town on your yard should have a ‘No Hunting’ sign?

That bear did not come from the Seeley Lake Game Preserve, it came from Locust Drive. That bear could have been shot a hundred times since July if it was a fed bear. It never bothered anyone, it never charged a dog, it was just on his usual tour. The hazers said other neighbors were chasing it out of their yards. There are no other neighbors and in my opinion you all are liars.

The warden stated, “People of Seeley Lake are not smart when it comes to bears and someday we are gong to get someone killed” Yes, that could be depending on your reaction when you see a bear on your land. Give the bear room when he’s walking through, get your kids in and keep them quiet. Although I have never seen a bear charge a dog unless it has babies and its in its area.

I have lived here and have seen one hundred bears including three grizzlies and never had a problem and the neighbors will tell you the same.

If you are smart, understand you moved here knowing we have bears. This bear was a bear everyone loved. He was not a fed bear, he was on his usual tour of the town and in my opinion two idiots saw him and have no morals as to killing anything.

Yes, someone may get killed by a bear but you also may get killed trying to get across Highway 83, as people still drive 60 mile per hour going through town.

So you hazers, I hope every time you look at the rug you will have out of this bear you are overwhelmed with guilt and get sick to your stomach.

As to the warden, my opinion is you jumped the gun, took the easy way out and ignored the truth. Most of the time it is the people who create the problems with the bears.

So many people approached me on this subject although I feel the same way.

Please respond in a letter to the editor. Never be afraid to protect our wildlife from unethical hunters. Post your property if you want. I probably will and back it up with a 45.

Thank you and bless all of you who were so offended and those who told the truth and continue to save our wildlife.
