By now all of you have read or heard of the puppy mills in Charlo and Libby. Don’t you think it is time our legislators wake up and pass a bill abolishing all puppy mills and checking out the so called licensed dog kennels that sell puppies?

My opinion is if you decide to buy a puppy or a dog, check out the shelters or The Humane Society first. If someone advertises puppies for sale you ought to be shown into the house, look the puppies over and see the mom and dad and how all are kept. If someone says you will have to wait and they will bring the puppy out, then ask to see where and how the dogs are kept and see how many dogs are there.

Some so called legitimate licensed kennels turn into puppy mills out of greed. Some of the ranchers, cattlemen and chicken farmers objected to the last bill for fear of inspections. If they treat their horses and cattle and hens well, why would you be afraid of an inspection?

Sirs and ladies, you are producing products. Dogs and cats are not products.

For those who say they have to raise dogs and have a puppy mill for a living, get out and get a job and quit letting little animals freeze, die of heat, die of abuse, and yes, throw the sick and dead in a big hole.

For those who allowed bill 608 die and refused to work it out, thanks to you and our legislators hundreds, possibly thousands, have died or lived like the ones in Libby and Charlo. Deep thanks to all who continue to work on a new bill such as Senator Sue Malek and Rep. Larson.

So, for whoever our new representative will be in November, know we are all asking for your support to abolish puppy mills!

I know a little dachshund who escaped from the garage when her owner left and was chased down finally on Black Bear by a very caring lady named Lora. She couldn’t keep the little dog because her chichiua was very jealous, so I ended up with the sweet little thing. So the little dog made her self at home. Lora found the owner and sent her my way. She was just the happiest little dog and so was her mom. I bet she now has a collar on with an I.D.

We need your support to abolish puppy mills. Stand with us and call your representatives and senators.

Blessings,

Elinor Williamson
