New Ambulance Arrives

SEELEY LAKE – Seeley Lake Rural Fire District Board of Trustees had the opportunity to view the new ambulance at their meeting July 19. Also at the meeting trustee Bruce Bourne resigned his position. Discussions about the assistant chief position, a stipend for officers and the mill levy were tabled until the board gets further information from Missoula County.

The new ambulance arrived Monday, July 18. Seeley Lake Fire Chief Bob Vanden Heuvel said it needs to have the radios installed, the graphics and decals put on the outside and the power lift installed for the stretcher. Then they can outfit it. He hopes to have it operational by the end of the month. Then the challenge, he said, is getting all the volunteers trained so they know where everything is and how it operates.

Bourne submitted his resignation. Due to the requirements for serving on a Missoula County board, he is no longer eligible for the board after changing his residency to Ravalli County. Chair Bonnie Connell said the board appreciated his service and he will be greatly missed.

The board has 30 days to recommend someone to the Missoula County Commissioners. The commissioners can then appoint their recommended individual to serve the rest of the term. If interested in applying, see the legal notice on page 15 or call the department, 677-2400 for more information.

In other business:

• Vanden Heuvel said the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Clearwater Unit helped the volunteers remove trees around the landing pad at the Seeley-Swan Medical Center that were making the approach hazardous for Life Flight. He expects Life Flight to approve the approach sometime soon.

• The board approved Vanden Heuvel’s request to replace the wooden flag pole that snapped in the wind.

The fire board meets the third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. The next meeting is Aug. 15 at the Fire Hall.
