SVE Students Perform in Colorful Concert

SWAN VALLEY - Swan Valley Elementary (SVE) School students, from preschool to eighth grade, performed in their annual spring concert for family and friends May 17.

This year's concert theme was "Color Our World" in which the students displayed their musical skills they had acquired under the direction of music director Kaytee Ambrozich. Most of the selections had to do with color while others according to Ambrozich, the students chose themselves. They decided on "Stand" and "Brown Eyed Girl."

The performances included all the students singing, the fifth grade band playing together in solos and mixed ensembles, and members of the Seeley-Swan High School (SSHS) band members joining the advanced band in selections including "The Star Spangled Banner" to open the program.

Ambrozich said, "I asked the older students [fifth through eighth grade] to select music that shows who they are. It is important to show your 'true colors'." Ambrozich said that she worked with the singers pronouncing words clearly in songs such as "Blackbird" and "True Colors."

The preschool through second-graders used visuals to color their performance. The preschoolers, accompanied by their teacher Danni Parcell on the guitar, held color-name signs to go with "The Rainbow Song." The kindergarten through second-graders waved colored banners to go with "Three Primary Colors," used American Sign Language to go along with "Colors," and mimicked a bird in "Red, Red Robin."

The advanced band and the SSHS band members ended the concert with selections including "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Sassy Cat Blues" featuring soloist Jayla Kauffman on the slide trombone.

At the conclusion of the program, the SVE students presented Ambrozich with a thank-you poster they created for her.
